About a month ago we had a mass removed with a toe amputation on our cat Henry. The mass began to grow back. Last week we took him back in, and the vet suspected cancer. She sent off the biopsy material they had taken during the first surgery. On Friday she called to tell us it was soft tissue sarcoma, and that we needed to take the leg off. Henry is 12 years old, and I had many fears about an amputation. The weight of the decision felt like it was sitting on my chest and literally crushing me. I came across a blog this weekend about a little 3 legged cat. It really made me feel lighter about the decision to take the leg. We dropped him off at the vet this morning (Monday). The vet called this afternoon to say he did well, and should be able to come home tomorrow afternoon. I am so nervous, but also grateful that saving his life was even possible.

Which blog?
You can search all sites or browse the blogs directory for more.
Best wishes for Henry's speedy recovery. And welcome, your future forum posts will not require moderation.
PS: One of the first feline amputees we wrote about in the Tripawds News blog was Henry the three legged cat.

Hello and welcome to you and Henry from me and Jill the tripawd cancer fighting kitty!
Please visit Jill's blog (jillsjourney.tripawds.com), I documented everything from before her surgery to now 9 months later. She also has a facebook page:

That is crazy, Henry's story is SO similar to Jills! She had her toe amputated first, she had a large mass on her toe. The aspirate said some type of cancer, so we took her toe off. The biopsy came back as osteosarcoma (bone cancer), but she got great margins, so we did not amputate her leg. However, 6 months later a metastasis showed up in her leg, so we amputated her leg and she had four rounds of chemo.
It is now 9 months later and she is doing amazing! Which leg did Henry have amputated? Jill's is her right rear. I know it's so so scary, but trust me, Henry will do GREAT as a tripawd! Please let me know whatever questions you have, I'm here to help! Also come to the chat room if you can!
xoxo,
Erica & Tripawd Kitty Jill

It was Fang's blog that I came across when searching the web for information. And, of course, that lead me hear, where I have read about other successful and happy tripawds.
It is Henry's front left leg that needed to be removed. I am still on pins & needles waiting to hear from the vet on a pickup time. Thanks for all the warm wishes/thoughts. I really appreciate it.

I just commented on your blog as well but isn't it the BEST feeling in the whole world? I felt like my Heart was bursting with happiness when I got Jill home! Sounds like Henry's doing just great. Jill definitely stumbled for the first week or two like a drunk kitty but then she got the hang of it real fast! Welcome home Henry!!!!!
Xoxo,
