October 5, 2019 was the worst day of my life. Little did I know that it was also going to be the beginning of my tripawd story.

On this day I had to say goodbye to my 14.5 yr old retired K9 partner. He was my world. While holed up in my house the next two days I came across a tripawd named Ben who was being fostered in my area. His meet and greet at a local pet store was the same day I lost my beloved Dasty. Something about Ben just struck me, but I was not ready to think about getting another dog. It just felt like I was cheating on Dasty by even thinking about it.

On October 8 I finally left the house and it was a beautiful day. I went to my yoga class and cried with my teacher. On my way home I looked up and saw a cloud that looked just like a dog running. I knew that was my boy telling me it was all ok. I went home and immediately applied for Ben. Within a couple hours his foster mom called me and arranged a home visit.

On October 10 Ben came to what would become his forever home. I found out that he had been found in the streets of North Carolina in August with a bad leg injury and was taken to a local vet, but nobody came to claim him. Ben was set to be euthanized, but the vet said to give him one more day because he was such a sweet dog. A foster for One at a Time K9 Rescue saw him and got the ok to call the vet to say that the rescue would pay for his bills and take him. However, when the call was made she was told that he had been set to be euthanized the night before. Luckily the angels were looking over my sweet boy and he was alive, but not well. See, that bad leg injury was infected and needed amputated. The rescue took care of everything and sent him to Ohio to one of their fosters there and that’s how I came across him.

It’s still a mystery to all of us involved though how I saw his listing. I could never find it again and nobody involved with the rescue had any mutual friends with me. It was just meant to be. What’s even more interesting to me is that Ben is listed as a Beagle/German Shepard mix. The only dog I had as a child was a beagle and the only dog I had as an adult was my German.

Like I said, it was just meant to be. We both needed each other. Ben needed the perfect household where he could gain his confidence and be loved and I needed someone to heal my heart.  Love you Benny- ❤️ Mom

Oh it was absolutely meant to be! Wow! What a story! Thank you for joining and sharing it with us. Do you have any photos you would like to share? I've never seen a Beagle Shepherd mix, he must be quite a looker. Here's how adding images works in the forums. We would love to see your sweet boy. How is he doing now?

How wonderful that Dasty was looking out for you from up above. He's now your k9 partner in the sky. I would love to hear more about him too!
