Ben is not feeling well again. First of all, he has been having a constant problem with some accumulation building in the corners of his eyes. We keep cleaning it out, and it keeps coming back.
This week Ben has also almost completely stopped getting up, and is not hungry. He has been coughing a bit. He does not seem able to get up very easily like he had, and when forced to has had to roll a bit sideways, and then I help him up. He has a vet appointment next Tuesday.
He is just not a very happy dog these days.
Best of luck to Ben, we know you'll take good care of him. Sorry we missed you, 🙁

Ben is set to go into the vet tomorrow, but it is going to be hard to get him into the car. He has not been getting up anymore on his own, and I have had to start bringing his water and food bowls to him lying down. Once a day after he eats and drinks, I help him up, and he struggles to get outside so he can go to the bathroom. I'm hoping against hope that the vet can do something. It's just heartbreaking to watch your pal deteriorate.
Heartbreaking indeed. You have our best wishes.

Ben went to the vet last night. I had to lift him into the car, and then we had to lift him onto a table and roll him in. The vet did an x-ray, and there are two small tumors visible, but not any mets in his lungs. There is something wrong with his back legs, which could be serious or not. We are going to learn today if this is curable or whether we need to euthanize.
Thanks for the update on Ben, Knut. We know this is a difficult time for you. And we know you'll make the decision that is best for your little buddy. Give him a big hug for us.

Ben went to the vet, and stayed overnight. We were told he had some sort of lesion on his back end, given pain and antibiotic pills.
Ben seemed o.k. again. That night as we sat down in the living room, Ben went to get some water. I heard a loud yelp, and a thump. I knew it was not good. Ben was in a bad position, and I think he either broke his back or had a massive heart attack. He was still alive when I got to him. He let out about 3 long gasps, and died in my arms.
Thanks for all the support here. Ben is finally out of pain, although I am in a lot of pain.
I am very sorry to hear of the death of your wonderful friend Ben.
I am still going through the pain of losing Genie, as the wound is still very fresh. I think I am in a position to tell you I truly understand how you feel.
May Ben find Genie and many other friends to keep each others company in the place where there is no pain, no tears, no suffering.
Take care of yourself.
Jessie (Genie's mom)
Knut, we wish words could ease at least some of your pain. Please know that you are a good human. Ben was fortunate to have you.

we were thinking about you over the weekend...we are so sorry for your loss. Words cannot express how much these guys get into our hearts and souls...words cannot express how much grief when we lost them. Know that Ben was exactly where he wanted to be when he crossed the rainbow bridge - he is at peace, we hope that brings some tiny bit of comfort during this really difficult time that only dawg lovers can relate to.
thoughts and prayers,
zeus, buddy and Mom.
