Apologies to all of Bauer's supporters that I haven't been on the site in months.  Just too busy.

As background, Bauer is a 6-y.o. male Golden diagnosed with grade III Mast Cell Tumor in April 2010.  He had his amputation in mid may of his left-front leg.  Month 1 was, as everybody describes, pretty hard.  But he's physically adapted wonderfully (as you can see in the embedded video of a very happy dog.)  He's been doing chemo since his surgery.  He tolerates the chemo well, but recently developed some skin lesions on his belly that were positive for the presence of mast cells.  As is the case with dogs and cancer, something will undoubtedly get him before his time.

He remains very affectionate and loves sleeping on the bed.  As you can see in some of the pictures, he's more active than his quad-pawd sister.

Thanks everybody for all your guidance and support, and good luck to all from Bauer.

Hi Bauer's pack,

Nice video- he really does look good.

You might remember my Pug Maggie lost her rear leg to Mast Cell Cancer and spent 6 months doing chemo.  I went back and read your earlier posts.  I lost Maggie on June 2nd- just around the time Bauer started feeling good, so I lost track of you.  Mag passed from a second cancer, melanoma, not the mast cell cancer.

Mag had several MCTs removed after her amputation.  We removed them under a local with just a stitch or two.  I hope Bauer has the same resiliency that Maggie did.

Sending Tri-Pug power your way!!

Happy Four Month ampuversary too!!!

It's wonderful to see Bauer doing so well. Skyler also had a grade lll MCT, so it does prove that each dog's story is very different from another's with the same diagnosis. Sending a big golden hug! Thanks for sharing the video!!!

Thanks to all of Bauer's followers who have comforted us.  It seems I only have time to spend on this site when I need the support.

Bauer has been a joy since the September video (at the top of this thread).  Unfortunately, in the last three weeks his grade III mast cell cancer seems to have kicked into overdrive.  Whereas the site of his amputation had been beautifully recovered and smooth, the lymph node in his shoulder is visibly growing by the day, and he has some skin lesions on his belly that are cancerous.  His wonderful oncologist continues to rotate medications, but we seem now to be behind the curve.

Bauer continues to have appetite, to leap on/off the bed and in/out of my truck, but we can tell his energy level is depleting.  He wags his tail frequently, and while he no longer outruns his sister as he did after his amputation recovery, he still peruses the yard with her.

We have had time to accept Bauer's condition but it's still hard to know that a terrible decision awaits.

I am truly sorry to hear the cancer is in overdrive.  Bauer is so vibrant, and so young.  There are no words to bring you peace, so I will encourage you to live each remaining day to it's fullest.  Give him the very best each day has to offer and build those beautiful memories while you can.  It is obvious how much you love him, sending good thoughts your way as you proceed on the journey.

I'm sorry to hear of Bauer's cancer in overdrive as well.  His video from September is just so awesome....this dreadful disease is just horrible.  Hugs to you and your family...enjoy your time with your precious boy.

Bauer is so beautiful (as goldens tend to be).  I'm so sorry to hear of this downturn, but it doesn't mean he can't be with you for a good while still.  Continue to love him every minute.
