Hi All!

I am a bit worried today and just wanted to know if anyone has experienced the same thing during treatment? Gracie started her Chemo on Friday, she came home and was very tired, but still ate her dinner. She stayed in bed most of the day on Saturday with no signs of discomfort, just very tired. She has not vomited yet. On Sunday she seemed to be on top of the world, feeling much better, eating and playing as usual. Today is Monday, and she has still not vomited yet, however I have noticed coughing. This afternoon, she coughed up a bit of blood- it almost had a "globby" texture and brownish in color. She coughed up a little bit more blood just now, more red in color this time. Very tired again today.

Does anyone know if the coughing up of bits of blood could be a side effect of the Chemo? I fear the worst that the Cancer is already in her lungs. I am hoping it is just a side effect. I have called the Vet, he is unavailable right now and will call me back later today- will keep you posted.

Hi, I can relate to the sleepy thing after chemo.  Jackson was very tired for about 5 days after his first carbo-chemo.  He played a very little bit during those days (a total of maybe 5min?).  Then, about a week after chemo, he has bounced back to his pre-amp energy and personality!  It's so refreshing and comforting.

Besides that, I cannot comment on the coughing up blood.  I think I read that Cadence had a vomiting scare: http://tripawds.....mp/page-2/.

It's scary!  I hope it's nothing or a side effect of the chemo.  My understanding that as a mode of action, chemo strikes rapidly dividing cells.  Those are found in tumors AND in the GI tract.  Her tummy and GI tract may be upset from the chemo?  Please keep us posted about your lovely, big pup!  She's so adorable!!!!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Do you know if she actually coughed up blood or if she coughed and the coughing led to vomiting up blood? If it was vomiting from heavy coughing, I would be less concerned due to the GI effects chemo can have.

She can get Cerenia before her chemo that should prevent any upset and vomiting.

HOWEVER, I strongly advise you to call your vet back and tell them you believe this may be an emergency and you want to know if you can just bring her in to be looked at. No appointment, just go and they work you in. You are paying big bucks for this. Don't think of it as being "trouble" because it's not. It's owed. If you have to remind them of that, do.

Also, you can start a new thread here and post this under Ask a Vet. Just copy and paste this whole thing if you want. Then you don't have to rewrite.

Now that's my 2 cents, worth every penny you paid for it! But I think this should be looked at, and even if it turns out to be nothing, how are you expected to know? You aren't.

What's going on with Grace now? I've been wondering how things turned out. Hoping she's bouncing around and keeping you busy.
