Well we got the results of Miss Maizys biopsy on Monday. It's osteosarcoma  (Insert string of very bad words here)

The coughing and gagging seems not to be kennel cough. Our vet says it was from being intubated for such a lengthy time and that she has axid reflux which she take meds for. She has had no other episodes except 2-3 small coughs the next day.

I still have her on Gaba every 12 hours. I tried cutting yesterdays morning gaba out but she seemed uncomfortable so I will give her another day or 2 and try again.

I see my baby returning to me. We play in the back yard and the other day she even tried to nip at my butt as she was goofing around. Our weather has been all over the place. Sunny one day, sideways rain the next but we are getting out with our raincoats anyways. It is puppy joy every day rain or shine. We take her to an old school field to hop around. She got so happy when i took her to the park which is on our old normal walking route. It still freaks me out letting her go on her own off leash. I watch her like a hawk.

We have decided on Chemo (Carboplatin) We start on March 1st. It would have been a sooner start but that would involve heading 3-4 hours out of town, dropping her off and leaving her to have it done and then picking her up and driving home again. Our vet is making arrangements to have it done at our clinic with me being able to stay with her. She is such a Mommy's girl that there would be no way to do it with out her being sedated. Just like her checking herself out of the hospital 5 hours post op. She would have come home sooner if they would have let her. Bad little puppy 🙂

We are going to try to get the recommended 5 treatments but if she doesn't tolerate it well then we will stop and try a more natural option. She has an appointment to see the holistic vet because we are going to give her some complimentary treatment to help her with the chemo and for aftercare moving forward.

On top of all of this I'm on my own for a while as my husband is going back to work after being off for a year. Not the best timing support wise but much needed due to all the puppy bills rolling in. He will be gone for 2 weeks at a time and then home for 2 weeks. It was so hard for him to leave the other day. He and Miss Maizy got very close this past year and he didn't have to tie a pork chop around his neck to get her to play with him or go on a walk without Mommy tagging along. At least we won't have to eat made in China cat food from the dollar store now LOL That is our running joke.

I downloaded the dog cancer survival book and am going to get the life on 3 legs book too. We are going to try to give her the best possible outcome. She deserves that.

I want to say thank you to everyone here at Tripawds for all of your support and encouragement. We would have never kept any reasonable level of sanity this far without you and for that I thank you, Miss Maizy thanks you!

It's a sunny day, we are going out for our Puppy Joy!

Hop on, Bad Little Puppy, hop on!

Suzy, you crack me up! Did your husband really wear a pork chop around his neck?! Haha!

Well, I'm sorry you got the diagnosis. It bites. But as you already see, Maizy doesn't care, she's still her own hoppy self and lovin' life every single second. I really love that you are following her lead and enjoying the day.

You have a great attitude, a level head and backup plans, I like that. Whatever path this all takes is the best one for the pack, you can't go wrong.

Even though the hubby is back at work, you aren't alone, we're here for you so keep us posted OK?

P.S. Do let us know how the holistic vet visit goes, we're always curious about that. Now that you've graduated out of the "Diagnosis" forum you can post in other Forums, so hop on!

Just remember, a "diagnosis" means NOTHING to your very, very, good "bad little puppy"! Doesn't mean swuat!! Maizy is getting on with living life to the fullest!

Glad you got her "cough" fixed. I actually was just reading an article about giving pepcid before and after intubation for that very reason.

Chemo can always be stopped, which is why I proceeded for my Happy Hannah. He protocol was four rounds of Carboplatin and she sailed through them!

That's good that the Vet is able to do the chemo at his clinic undther the consult of an Onco. Also good that you are able to stay with her as being still is crucial so the IV doesn't slip out of the vien..ugh!

Your positive attitude is very therapeutic for Miss Maizy, as is hers for you 🙂 Good job!!

As Jerry said, you absolutely are not alone!

Hugs to that sweet girl...and an extra pprk chop!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
