Lately, Jack has been urinating quite a bit. Well, today we were napping on the bed and I was scratching his tummy and I thought I felt ribs...after some pushing and prodding, I found that its a hard mass that is positioned on his left side and is quite big. He's still bright, alert, playful, and snuggly, but just wanted to let you all know what is going on. I'm not going to get it tested, I'm not going to get x-rays, it will just have to play itself out 🙂 It could be a day, it could be a month, but it's definitely there. No need to comment, no need to say how sorry you are to hear this, I know everyone is sending good thoughts, and that is appreciated. Thanks for your support!

Oh, Laura, I really hate to hear this. Also understand how you wish Jackers to just be a dog. Good thoughts for you both. Love him, spoil him, enjoy each moment, and live for today.

Oh Laura!
I'm sorry but I can't keep silent! You know how much we love Jack, so it's very upsetting to us as well. I'm glad you told us. Thank you!
I totally understand what you mean about not wanting to know for sure. But will you be okay not knowing? Remember Trouble had a lipoma that was nothing? As long as you are okay, then we are okay!
You know we are here for you. Lots of hugs to you!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Sending good thoughts, big fat hugs... and lots of love and kisses for Capt Jackers!!!! (and hoping that the lump is nothing serious...)
Angel Jake and Wolfie's Mom
Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!
I know how scary a lump can be. A few years ago Charlie started getting lumps. By about the 5th one, I stopped aspirating (I think that's what it is called) and figured G*d would take care of things and if it was Charlie's time, it was his time. They never bothered him or caused him pain (although people would constantly remark about them).
When we amputated the right leg, I told the surgeon he could go in and grab the big ones if he felt like it. On Charlie's right side he had two tumors the size of softballs. Sure enough, he took them off. You can't pet Charlie without running over all the smaller lumps. Some small, some bigger (golf ball size). Soft, hard, he has them all.
Just sayin', we understand and support checking it out or not checking it out.

How can we not help but comment so here's my 2 cents...Mackenzie just had a lump I found biopsied (she has plenty of them but this one I felt I needed to get checked out for some reason cause it came up so suddenly)...it turns out that it is a metastasis but its own entity - which was the good news. So we're just going to watch it for now. But I feel positive that it won't grow into anything more than "its own entity" (quoted by the doctor.) For what it's worth...I now know what it is but I'm not too worried about it (and I worry about everything!) Here's hoping that Jack is totally ok and you won't have to worry about this either!
Kami (Mackenzie's Mom)
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
We just got back from the vet. She felt the huge mass and goes, "well, that's bizarre!". It could be a few things...it could be its own cancer (such as hemangiosarcoma), it could be osteosarcoma metastises (she said it's rare to go to organs, but possible), or it could be a benign mass surrounding the liver (she called it something so it does have a name, but I can't remember what it was...). I wasn't going to take him to the vet, but during our nightly walk I decided to check his urine and I could visibly see blood while he was peeing. I just freaked! I guess I imagined his entire insides filled with blood. His vet is thinking its probably a UTI and he is going back tomorrow for a cystocentesis so they can get sterile urine, but it's funny to me that she was more concerned about that than she was about this gigantic mass in his tummy So, what does this mean? Well, the good news is, he still has a large appetite, he's drinking normally, he's still his normal self, he is not pale, he is showing interest in stuff, and he is not in any pain (even when you press on his abdomen). So nothing is really concerning symptom-wise. The bad news is that there is a mass...but that's it! So since I don't want to know what it is, we just let it be. The plan is to make sure his bladder is OK before he starts a therapy plan, because I guess certain steroid drugs can upset the bacteria and actually make it worse. The two things that will probably happen are 1) the tumor causes a bleed so large that jack will get so lethargic and just won't wake up, or 2) the tumor gets so large that it pushes his organs causing vomiting and loss of organ function. GAH! She seems to think its a tumor of the liver (either benign or malignant) or surrounding the liver which, she said, is a "good" place to get a tumor because of the rebuilding ability of the liver itself. Bottom line is, right now he's fine and we just have to wait it out
