I love my tripawds family, y'all are the best!

Guess what?!

Domino is coming home!!!!!!!!!

the doctor just called, he had a very good night and his pain seems very well controlled. She said he does have a fentanyl patch and he seems very comfortable. They did get him to eat a small amount this morning, he ate some chicken when hand fed and ate some more from a bowl!! They are all in love with him and even have him loose hanging out in the dental room with them lol.

I did get some rest last night (with a little medical help lol) but the bed was very empty without him, he always sleeps right up against me.

I pick him up in about an hour and a half, I've got to boil some chicken and rice for him and I have several cans of wet food waiting. I just can't wait to see him!

He will look incredibly different, so I will only post pictures on here if y'all want to see them. Technically he's now a double amputee lol. He'll have a recheck in about 14 days to remove stitches. I'm just hopeful that this recovery is as smooth as his amputation recovery.

Thank y'all again for being so amazing!!! I'll update again once he's home!

Wow, Cassie. I missed this entire thread - what a shock. I'm so sorry to read about his struggles, but my goodness what fantastic news that he's interested in eating!

I'd love to hear how his recovery goes and see pictures - I'm sure he's still as handsome as ever.

Wow he's so amazing! OF COURSE we want to see photos of your beautiful Domino, please do share when you are able.

I'm curious to see how his recovery will compare with that of amputation, so don't be shy and let us know how things are going OK? We are so happy that he's on the road to healing. Wonderful way to start our day!

You are going to be just fine Cassie, I know you have it in you to help him heal and feel good again.

Hey all! Domino is home!

He's doing really well. He's already eaten for me once, he's on soft food and partial hand feeding but he's already wanting to eat from a bowl on his own. He's drinking water ok, he just makes a little bit more of a mess than normal lol. He seems very comfortable and not in any pain. His face/chin is very swollen, but the doctor said that should go down in a day or two. He's currently on a fentanyl patch, rimadyl, gabapentin, and clindamycin. We'll start tramadol on Saturday when the fentanyl patch comes off.

I'm actually almost shocked at how good he looks. The doctor didn't need to shave any hair, and other than the swelling he looks fairly normal. His jaw does drift to the side, but its actually kind of cute lol. We've got a careful few days ahead of us, but so far so good. He's resting comfortably right now. I do have to work this afternoon, but he'll only be by himself for a couple hours until my roommate comes home. I'll keep him crated with his e-collar on for safety.

His face looks great - and dare I say, even more handsome now that he's a bit lopsided! I'm shocked at how mild the swelling is and how happy he looks in all the photos. No wonder the staff at the clinic were all charmed by him.

I'm very happy that the surgery was a success!!

The fentanyl patch will work great for the pain -- it did for my Chancey. Also, we switched at one point from tramadol to vicodin at the recommendation of our hospice vet. She said that in dogs, tramadol can act more as a SSRI.. making them sleepy but not as effective at controlling the pain. Has anyone else ever heard that from their docs?

Sending big hugs to you and Domino! heartheartheart

How can I even focus in the jaw/mouth when Im so mesmerized by his adorable ear positions, his happy smile and his druggy looking beautiful eyes!!!!????

I cannot believe he's eating and drinking already!  He doesn't even look like he's in any pain, which is also hard to believe!!   The pain meds are doing their job and maybe, just maybe, it's not going to be has horribly painful as it would be for us humans!   This Domino is a true ROCK STAR!!

So happy he's home Cassie....And I know he's just as thrilled to be home with all his pack! 🙂

Lots of love

PS. HEATHER, I know some Vets don't think Tram is all that effective, while others do, especially when used in conjunction with Gaba.  Like so much on this journey, no two dogs are the same when it comes to what pain meds work best for each individual dog.  I've certainly seen Vicodin used for some dogs here effectively.

Hey, we are all a little lopsided in one way or another!

He looks great and so happy to be home. Hoping for the best possible news when the path/biopsy report comes.

Cassie he looks amazing!  I had no idea what to expect but he's as adorable as ever!  Gives him a bit of a dapper rogue look.  Still sending prayers for a good biopsy result.  Praying for a non cancerous bony tumor growth that resulted from his auto accident.  🙏🏻

He looks wonderful. Incredibly wonderful in fact! I was expecting something completely different. I'm sure this is all a relief for you Cassie.

Hugs for both of you. You'll have your cuddler tonight.

OMD he looks more adorable than EVER! Seriously, as if he could get any cuter but he IS. What a sweetie, look at how hoppy he is to be home! And eating and drinking? WOW! I'd be crying like a baby. Not Dom!

Cassie let me add that you did such a brave thing. I have relatives who automatically euthanized their otherwise healthy 3 year old dog who was diagnosed with a mandibular tumor, all because they couldn't stand the idea of this procedure. Today I see the joyful look on Dominoes face and I'm so sad that their young dog didn't get the same chance to be happy again.

This is very educational for all of us. You are truly wonderful and so loving to put Dom's best interests first. Kudos to you! xoxo

Hey all!! Sorry for going a few days without an update. In order to be off the day of Dom's surgery I had to work 2 back to back 12 hour shifts Thursday and then Friday. I finally have 2 days off to spend with my boy.

His recovery is going great! The swelling in his jaw and cheek is finally going down and he's looking more "normal" lol. Now that the swelling is going down his tongue is definitely starting to hang out more often, but its super cute. He's acting much more like himself, and wanting to play and hang out with the rest of the pack.

I took his fentanyl patch off this morning and started him on his tramadol, and his pain still seems to be very well controlled. We did go through an episode of nausea and burping, so he's been on Convenia for the past 2 nights and thats really helped. I still am not brave enough to look in his mouth lol. Other than looking at his reduced canine I really havent seen much. He's still eating great and is almost back on his normal kibbled softened with water.

Im still super nervous about the biopsy, but whatever happens we'll deal with it.

It's so nice to have him back to his normal self, I know he'll be happy when he can get out of the cone of shame and back to play time. As of today we are 4 days post of and I'm absolutely amazed at how well he is recovering. I never would have imagined it would go this well. So fingers and paws crossed that it continues!!

Cassie and crooked faced Domino!

These pictures are from our lazy day today, he love having me home all day!
