Received all my tests and phone feedback back from Fuzz's visit to oncologist last week.  I have copied and pasted the reports below.. hard to read as I converted them to text but would appreciate a glance/review and feedback if info seems similar to other experiences/diagnosis.  They have not pinpointed the cause/specific type of cancer calling it a sarcoma and most likely a soft tissue that has invaded bone but still reading it could be just bone issue and still saying it could be one of 3-4 types.  with the total destruction of his scapula there is still hesitency to say surgery will be helpful/success but that is only option I am getting. No metastatic disease was found and overall for his age he is a fairly healthy cat despite this damn cancer!  Although he was diagnosed with a mild/moderate heart murmur which I was told is somewhat common in older cats- Fuzz is 10 years old. I am scheduled with a specialty surgeon who focuses on tumors/oncology related surgeries/amputations on 9/12 for the surgical consultation.  Fuzz is still so happy and acts so normal and literally every time I look at his ridiculously cute fuzzy face I bust out crying. This is so unfair for animals to just suddenly have this!  I am so angry and sad about this whole situation.  Luckily my father is helping me financially as this is running into the many thousands of dollars for treatment and it hurts that so many cannot even consider this type of treatment and care due to extreme costs.  Below are the reports..

Radiography report: Requesting Doctor: Rance Gamblin, DVM, DACVIM (Oncology) Patient Name: Fuzz Wells (249895) Species: Gender: Breed: Age: Weight: Feline 10Yr 2Mo Male Not known 4.80 Kg Radiology Report (4864641-15/Radiographs Only - Priority) IDEXX Telemedicine Consultants radiology | cardiology | specialty services Completed 08/21/19 03:28 PM PRESENTING COMPLAINT: Thoracic metastasis screen HISTORY: Indoor cat, no previous significant medical history. A couple of months ago, O noted some mild forelimb lameness (intermittent). Lameness seemed to be getting slowly worse so O saw rDVM. rDVM was concerned about possibility of VAS based on exam. Over the last 2 weeks O feels mass over shoulder seems bigger, and limp seems worse. However is still active, etc. Current medications: herbal/mineral supplements only. Abnormalities on physical exam: Grade IV/VI systolic murmur over sternum and App 4-5 cm firmly affixed mass associated with R scapula that seems to also be palpable on medial aspect of scapula/axilla as well. Mild R forelimb muscle wasting with noticeable limp. PROBLEMS/DIAGNOSIS: R scapular mass-- >suspect sarcoma (either vaccine associated, or primary bone) THORAX August 21, 2019: 3 images are provided. FINDINGS: The pulmonary parenchyma is within normal limits, and no pulmonary nodules are identified to indicate metastatic disease. There is no evidence of thoracic lymphadenopathy or mediastinal abnormalities noted. There is mild generalized enlargement of the cardiac silhouette. The pulmonary vasculature is normal in size and there is no evidence of congestive heart failure. No abnormalities of the trachea are seen. The cranial abdominal organs are within normal limits. There is no aggressive, mixed lytic and proliferative mass of the right scapula. A large soft tissue bulge protrudes laterally from the scapula, and there is a large amount of amorphous new bone proliferation within the tumor. Mild spinal degenerative changes are noted incidentally. CONCLUSIONS: Aggressive bone lesion of the right scapula, consistent with neoplasia such as chondrosarcoma, fibrosarcoma or other mesenchymal tumor. Mild cardiomegaly, most consistent with compensated hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. No signs of metastatic disease are seen. RECOMMENDATIONS: ECG and echocardiography are suggested for further workup of the cardiac changes, and to better evaluate the cardiovascular function. Reports from biopsy slides ( there were actual pictures of slides with cells attached but they did not transfer from Pdf format):  FUZZ WELLS PET OWNER: WELLS SPECIES: Feline BREED: Longhair, Domestic GENDER: Male AGE: 10 Years PATIENT ID: 249895 METROPOLITAN DOWNLOAD ACCOUNT 1053 S CLEVELAND MASSILLON RD COPLEY, OH 44321 330-666-2976 ACCOUNT #: 75260 ATTENDING VET: Gamblin, DVM, DACVIM, Rance (RMG) LAB ID: 2600118942 ORDER ID: 124699626 COLLECTION DATE: 8/20/19 DATE OF RECEIPT: 8/21/19 DATE OF RESULT: 8/22/19 IDEXX Services: Cytology with Microscopic Description (1 Site) - Priority Pathology 8/21/19 (Order Received) 8/22/19 10:47 AM (Last Updated) Images SITE 1 SITE 1 SITE 1 SITE 1 Generated by VetConnect® PLUS August 26, 2019 07:42 AM Page 1 of 2 FUZZ WELLS PET OWNER: WELLS DATE OF RESULT: 8/21/19 LAB ID: 2600118942 SITE 1 SITE 1 Cytology Source OTHER Clinical History: App 5-6 cm firmly attached R scapular mass with evidence of osteodestruction on radiographs. Suspect scarcoma ( either VAS or primary bone) Pathologist's Report MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION: 4 slides received and examined. The slides are of moderate to high cellularity. There are numerous large spindle cells present in aggregates as well as individually. Some of the cell aggregates have associated eosinophilic extracellular material that is thought to be a product of the cells. These cells have oval to indented nuclei with coarsely stippled chromatin, 1-2 nucleoli, and a moderate amount of basophilic cytoplasm. The cells have moderate anisocytosis and anisokaryosis, and occasional mitotic figures are noted. There are also low numbers of inflammatory cells present in some areas of the slides, and these are a mixed population of nondegenerate neutrophils, small lymphocytes, and macrophages. MICROSCOPIC INTERPRETATION: Most compatible with a sarcoma, favor soft tissue sarcoma, with mild mixed inflammation COMMENTS: This sample is predominated by pleomorphic spindle cells, sometimes found in thick aggregates. There is also mild degree of inflammation. A soft tissue sarcoma is considered most likely, although there is a small possibility this is just reactive fibroplasia (granulation tissue). A fibroblastic variant of osteosarcoma also cannot be excluded on cytology. Differentiation of these lesions usually is not possible without evaluation of architecture, and histologic examination is required for definitive characterization. Biopsy with histopathology is recommended for confirmation and further differentiation. I know it's hard not to focus on all the possible variants of cancer this could be. We all want answers in a situation like this, because without them it's scary. Totally understand how you feel. But there is a lot of positivity on Fuzz's side too, like exactly what you said:

No metastatic disease was found and overall for his age he is a fairly healthy cat despite this damn cancer!

That is a huge reason to breathe a sigh of relief and celebrate. Right now, he's strong as can be and his body can cope with whatever comes next. That is GREAT NEWS!

I guess the thing to ask the vet is, does the leg need to come off regardless? If so, then that's what you need to focus on right now. Jumping too far ahead only causes panic over things you cannot control.

Here are some questions that you may find helpful while you wait for the onco consultation. I know that seems like a lonnnng way off!

You could not have done more in gathering all of the diagnostic information. It's a great place to start to set you on the plan of action.

As I scanned it I saw so many positive things and like Jerry noted Fuzz is generally healthy! I don't understand most of it and can't really compare it to my cat's pathology results.

One thing I want to note is that when my Mona's lump was being diagnosed the vet was somewhat baffled because she didn't seem to be in pain and only had a slight limp but the lump was rapidly growing. He only assumed she had cancer and immediate amputation was the best option because of the rapid growth. The amputation was done within 6 days of me noticing a tiny bald spot on her leg.

Fuzz's situation is different because the lump is in the scapula. It may help to review the pros and cons with the specialty surgeon you are seeing in September. ie. no amputation, the disease progresses. Amputation, all cancer is gone or the cancer may have metastisized and you don't know it. Amputation may give you more time with Fuzz but recovery can be a bit challenging. It didn't seem to phase Mona much but she was a bit crazy from the pain meds.

I understand your anger and your tears. Tears are a great stress release. So keep crying and, more importantly, keep enjoying Fuzz's ridiculously fuzzy face, and post a photo of him!!

I would love to post pictures  of Fuzz... his face is my profile picture, but I am not sure how to do that.. I don't know what "source" means when pushing the  insert/edit image... I have many images saved on my computer but apparently copying the jpg does not work to bring them in here..

Here are some directions for photos: https://tripawd.....-1/page-5/

Give it a try. I add them in a weird way but don't want to confuse you so check with Jerry or Admin if you need more help.

I see Fuzz is a beauty from the avatar but I suspect the rest of his body is an amazing painting. My Mona is a short-legged black fur-ball who knows how to look adorable in the morning.

Here are detailed instructions for adding photos to forum posts . If you don't already share photos online somewhere, you can start a free Tripawds blog any time and upload them there. Need further help? Post in the Tech Support forum and we'll be happy to help!

The "source" is the URL/link to the image file, which must be hosted publicly online somewhere. If you create a free Tripawds Blog, you can upload images to your media library and then simply copy the image URL and paste it in your post without having to use the Insert Media button.

Aww I love the markings on Fuzz’ face, so unique! We also didn’t get a definitive diagnosis on our dog’s soft tissue sarcoma, despite doing a fine needle aspiration and a surgical biopsy. We were offered additional testing but told they couldn’t guarantee a definitive diagnosis. Because the treatment (amputation) was the same regardless of the diagnosis, and because we were already in so deep financially we opted to just go with the amputation. It was definitely the best choice we could have made, but I also definitely had to ‘let go’ a bit and not worry so much about if and when the cancer might come back. There are no guarantees either way, but my dog is now happy and enjoying life again so I try to follow his lead and enjoy each day.

Here are a few pictures of Fuzz through the years with current being first.. the one with the black and white cat was his best friend Moo who died suddenly and without any reason a couple years ago and through Fuzz into a behavioral tizzy (spraying/anxiety/aggression with other cat in house) He has since calmed down and has always believed he is part dog- Fuzz grew up with 2 labradors including my beloved yellow girl who passed in April at the age of 15.. so this has been a horrible year for me.. first losing Baylee and now Fuzz's cancer diagnosis and probably amputation. He is such a chill/friendly cat and I love him like not other (despite having 2 other indoor and 2 very loveable barn cats)  His paw fluff melts my heart and he is an incredible purr machine!

Aww what a fluffy ball of love! He has a look of 'Yes, I'm really human you know," in his eyes.

I'm so sorry about Baylee. This is so much heartache to go through in one year, it's no wonder you are feeling so stressed.

Thanks for the lovely photos of Fuzz. What a beauty! He reminds me of a Norwegian Forest cat.

I love his big paws with the fluff. Mona also has fluffy paws which are much smaller.

Sorry for the loss of Moo and Baylee. They always seem to take a piece of our heart don't they? It's clear that you have a very big heart and lots of love for your pets. All we can do is take good care of them, give them lots of love, and then hold on to the wonderful memories when they are ready to leave.

I hope you have lots of play and cuddle time with sweet Fuzz as you wait for your next step.

Hugs,

Kerren and Tripawd Kitty Mona
