Hello Everyone!

My almost 7 year old Dane Rio just got his right front leg histopathology report back and it was confirmed as Chondrosarcoma high grade 3, guarded prognosis. Apparently I have read and heard that it is a rare type of bone cancer but also the second most primary type of bone cancer...and only accounts for 5-10% of cases (weird)... Because of this there hasn't been enough effective studies done or "out there" to show that further such treatments such as chemo etc... are recommended as our next step. I'm not really okay with doing "nothing" as I want to give my boy the longest, happiest and most comfortable life and prognosis for HIM... And I'd be lying if I said it was a little for me too, never imagined the day I would be making daily decisions to prolong his quality of life...(I'd be lost with out him!) My oncologist still recommended chemo with Carboplatin for at least 6 rounds. I don't have a problem doing so, I am worried about the side effects if he doesn't tolerate it well and of course the cost, but like I said previously he is my life and I'd do anything for him. Anyone out there have this same diagnosis? Any further opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much!

Nikki and Rio

Hi Nikki and Rio, welcome to Tripawds. My apologies for the late delay in approving your post (we're at a conference all weekend), your future posts won't need approval.

I'm really sorry to hear about the diagnosis. Pardon my brief response, I'll be back later when my classes are over but meanwhile check out this post about chondrosarcoma and don't forget to do a search here in the forums, other members have dealt with this condition in the past, you're definitely not alone.

Here's the post:
