Been thinking of you and stopped by to see if there was an update on Wyatt. Hope the MRI went well and the rump lump continues to shrink.
Take care,
Kori & Angel Lupe
Diagnosed with possible synovial cell sarcoma of right front elbow 5/31/12. Amputation surgery performed 6/7/12. Final diagnosis of histiocytic cell sarcoma 6/11/12. Her soul and spirit were strong, her body was not...my little girl earned her wings 6/14/12. Thank you everyone, this has been a long day but it's your care and concern that's keeping us going.
We didn't post an update because there really wasn't any new news until about 30 minutes ago. Most of his lab work came back and all that was found was ecoli and staph, which was expected. But the cancer and fungal tests weren't in yet. Docs said he was doing great as far as everything else goes, appetite was good, all systems looking excellent overall.
The latest news is that he WAS scheduled for the MRI this afternoon but at the last minute the doctors thought that they could get enough information with just a CT scan, which they are supposed to be doing at this very minute. The CT is great because it means he only needs to be heavily sedated, not anesthetized. Little do those docs know that Wyatt needs nothing short of a horse tranquilizer to get sedated! And of course, CT scans are less expensive.
We are awaiting word, it should come in any minute. Keep yer paws crossed, we'll post as soon as we hear.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Waiting with paws crossed!!
Joan and Lily
Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
Paw shucks! Thank you all for your kindness!
Here's an update in our News Blog :

Whew !!!
Ahh Wyatt, you pup of mystery.
I'm so happy/relieved that this is NOT cancer.
I keep thinking that your wildman in his rompings and sometimes butt landings (butt brake) got poked and this icky developed.
Didn't he have something like this happen a year or so back ?
Anyway, here's to good times with your Boy home and mending up and all this just becoming an ancient mystery.
Hugs!
Denise

Yay for the not cancer part of your pupdate. I know your frustrations with wanting a diagnosis now... and not getting one. But, I am overjoyed that Wyatt will be home with you tomorrow and starting on those antibiotics. We once dealt with a similar type of situation, except that the infection had made it into the bone, but the antibiotics did wonders. I hope that the same is true for Wyatt.
K, an 8 year old chocolate lab, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the radius and ulna on 12/23/11. She had stereotactic radiation to kill the bone tumors, and 3 rounds of carboplatin. On 3/16/12, lung mets were found. We tried several different kinds of chemotherapy to slow the lung mets but none worked. Finally, mets appeared at other sites, including her spine. She earned her angel wings on July 15, 2012. K changed my life, and I'll never forget her. Our/my journey is chronicled at romp-roll-rockies.blogspot.com.
Sigh of relief - for all of you!

Awww thank you everyone! We just got done cleaning our RV to get it spotless for Wyatt's arrival later today hopefully. Not sure what his bandage will look like but I think we'll have a challenge on our hands to prevent him from going at it.
Yes, Denise, he did have a situation like this almost exactly 1 year ago, but it was resolved in a day or two. It was leftover bone debris from his amputation that had migrated outside of his body. The docs have ruled that out this time, because the pathway that this thing took moved away from the abscess/mass on his butt and inward, toward his body. Usually when this happens, the object goes toward the mass and outside the body. He is a mystery indeed.
Kbear, I'm glad to hear that the antibiotics worked on a bone infection. That's scary stuff.
As many of you know, Wyatt is only our second pup. We know a lot about bone cancers and amputation, but we're rather inexperienced with the variety of other medical scenarios that can happen to a dog. Lots of you out there have far more experience than we do when dealing with veterinary ordeals, so we really do appreciate your comforting words and support during this situation, you helped more than you'll ever know. Thank you!

Wyatt- there is something to be said about being an enigma when trying to attract those girl dawgs- I know they go for your dark, mysterious side. But why don't you give your pack a break and get for one of those run of the mill, easily diagnosed things?
I'm really, really glad for what has been ruled out. Now lets have those antibiotics kick some... ummm... butt lump!!!
