We live in a rural area and my now tripawd and my puppy have a well-fenced yard and a big covered porch and also a covered gazebo where they usually spend their days while we are at work. When I get home, I come through a gate at the side of the house and go in the back door.

Today is the first day since her amputation that Brandy has come all the way down with Chloe (my puppy) to meet me at the gate. Wow -that was so wonderful to have her come to the gate when they heard my car pull in the driveway and bounce around and the two of them scamper to the porch and wait to come in for their 'Im home" cookie.

She was sooooo happy.... and life is so 'normal' again.

It is wonderful when they do things that you almost thought you'd never see again. Glad to hear your news! By the way, I love Brandy's face in the picture.

I think she needs a smiley picture though. She looks so stoic in that one.

I hope that anyone who is hesitant about an amputation, or who is new to recovery gets to feel that moment when you really know that your dog is happy again.

As my two dogs were running to the house (they go up two steps to a deck) then across the deck and two steps to the back porch), if I didn't know she only had three legs, I wouldn't have been able to tell.

And I'm so happy about my 6 month old Rottie puppy Chloe. I was afraid she might be too boisterous or take advantage, but she's taken on "the Protector" role to Brandy and is being a really good friend.

Good sleeps everyone and thank you for your friendly support.

Did any of us realize that "normal" would feel so good.  I am sure that even the mention of that concept brought smiles to everyone in this community.  Thanks for sharing this wonderful moment and putting a smile on so many faces.  However, in celebration of Cherry's "12th birthday - one year ampuversary - primary care givers thank you" three day celebration, how about a second cookie?  Maybe tomorrow - Saturday - you do not even have to leave to have an "I'm home" cookie?  We'll be posting a report with photos and acknowledgements tomorrow.  Perfect timing.

Thanks for the update and as Shilo's Mom said "we wish you many more "normal" days ahead."

Way to go, Brandy.  This is the day the pawrents all dream of.  I know there are mini-celebrations going on at your house.

What a great moment!! Thanks for sharing it.

It is so hard at the beginning to ever imagine that normal would return- how resilient our pups are!!

Here is to normal for a long time:!:

What a great "ending"!  I love it when dogs suddenly seem to get it and that whole 3 leg thing is no longer  an issue at all!  I'm glad that Brandy is back to her old self, and I'd love to see some more pictures (and add some of your puppy while you're at it, hehe)!!  '

I haven't been on line much the past week -sooo busy here.

Sheesh -tonight hubby went outside to get something from the truck and thought he'd closed the front door of the house, but he hadn't. Brandy snuck out and was off and running down the road. So here I am trying to run after and catch my 3-legged dog in the dark to no avail (she had a good head start by the time I noticed and caught the cat who had snuck out behind her), and I had to go back and get the car. (BTW -She was always like this – just a runner for the joy of it and has looked over her shoulder at me and basically thumbed her nose and said "catch me if you can" for the past 11 years -obedience classes et al. I've always wondered if she's part Greyhound, the way she runs forever…

I felt like a Keystone Cop chasing after my 3-legged dog in a car. Never thought she'd be able to run that fast. Finally caught her when she stopped to investigate a mailbox four properties down the road and I had my chance to jump out of the car and pounce…..

Life is definitely too normal again…..

Sheesh….

One of my suggestions has always been to remember to treat the spirit as well as the body.  It sounds like you are doing an excellent job, but couldn't you find something that was less stressful?Winker  Seriously, we are very glad that nothing more came from this little outing than exercise and burnt gas.  Our local vet's dog also broke out of the house via a front door that wasn't closed tight.  It was nearly a month before they were reunited in spite of having a chip in the dog.  It was found almost 20 miles from their house and the woman that found the dog did not want to let go.  She only did because she was told that she could get into legal problems if ever discovered.  Glad yours had a happier and sooner ending.  However, we still think that normal is nice!!
