Hi all!

I'm new to your forum, but follow on Instagram (how I found out about the forum!)! I have a foster pup who is newly tripawed but he is also incontinent (bowel and bladder). We're thinking about how to get creative in keeping his diapers on and closing the leg hole (he wears regular baby diapers under a doggy diaper) but before I create a new blueprint for the wheel I wanted to ask! Thanks so much!

Hey there, I'm so glad you posted!

First, you are so darn awesome for fostering this pup. Do tell more about him, and feel free to post when he's available for adoption in our Tripawds Rescue Forum.

Ok now about the diapers. Are they staying on in general? It can be tricky keeping diapers on a rear-leg amputee dog. I'd love to know your secret!

About closing the hole....Boy, other than making alterations one disposable diaper at a time, like by perhaps applying wide strips of duct tape to the inside and outside of the diaper's unused leg hole area (so that the adhesive sides meet where the hole is, but attach to the perimeter of the leg hole so the tape sticks), I can't think of anything. Does that make any sense?

Hopefully someone else will have a better idea. This is the first time anyone has asked that question! Thanks for taking time to bring it up so we can all learn (and trust me, your pup isn't the first rear leg Tripawd to wear diapers so this is good to know!).

My rear amp Pug Maggie became incontinent during her last 6 months.  She was battling cancer so I really didn't want to add another med.  Well... I could not get a diaper to stay on her at all!  After days of daily laundry and having to wash her every morning I finally went to meds.

Years later my quad Pug boy had his first knee surgery, I made him some 'pants' to keep his incision covered.  I ended up attaching the pants to his harness which worked well for him.

You could also try pet suspenders, made to keep diapers on.  Here is a version from Walkin Pets.

It's been years since I've had a diaper in my hands (pet or person!) so I'm not sure about closing the leg hole.  Seems like some sort of waterproof tape would work, or maybe some type of fabric glue.
