Hi everyone!
Well, we have gotten a pretty rare snow in the Seattle area and it looks like it's going to stick around until Christmas. My problem is that we have four stairs out to the backyard and they're going to be slick so I am afraid Lacy is going to slip down the stairs since she rarely goes down them carefully like she should. Any advice on some dog safe stair de-icers? I don't want to irritate her pads.
Thanks!

Hello! We live in Puyallup, and my dogs really enjoy the snow. I have had to keep Tazzie in most of the day because I think she will play too hard with our other mastiff and hurt her front leg.
We used to live in Wisconsin, and the safest thing to use on the ice is sand. It gives the dogs good traction without being caustic to the feet. You can also use dog booties if it gets very cold and icy.

Oh my gosh. We live in Enumclaw and our Dobie (loved and treated as if he is our son) has been diagnosed with the "C-word" and we are contemplating the options; surgery or euthanize. . .we are just sick. Literally from crying, stressing. . . I wishe he could understand. . .talk to us. We live on an executive type farm, take our dogs horseback riding with us and are so worried about his quality of life on 3 legs and want more than for him to just be able to get around. He loves going with us. . .can he stay in the house and watch us leave? And yes, when it snows they love it and love sliding on our pond. We love him so much and hate to see him suffer as he is now. He really hurts. And, yes, what if it comes back. . .We'll know more tomorrow.

We totally understand how you feel. That's why we're here. Please feel free to add a new topic and share your story with any specific questions or concerns. You will find lots of support and advice from others on this site. FYI: If you register, your posts will appear immediately and not require moderation.
Also, be sure to review our posts answering the top ten questions about canine cancer and amputation. And while the cancer coming back is not an issue of if but rather when, you will find many success stories here and in the blog about dogs (like me) living two or more happy years on three legs.
Whatever your decision may be, just try to think of it in terms of quality of life, not quantity, and know that amputation is the only way to ease the tumor pain.
