My dog Rosie (Aussie) has passed the year mark of having cancer and amputation of her front leg but all of a sudden she refuses to walk.  We took her back to the vet and she shows no signs of cancer but she is overweight.  We were taking her for a walk every day (just a short walk) and she was doing OK.  First, she stopped going down the steps and then she stopped going down the ramp.  Now, we wheel her done to the grass and she gets off and does her business and then wants to be pushed back up.  We put a harness on her but mostly we are dragging her.  She will walk to her food bowl but then collapses after eating.  She's alert and shows no signs of being sick.  Any ideas?  At my wits end.

First of al, CNGRATULATIONS ROSIE!!clap What a champion and ispiration you are!

How old is Rosie? Has she had any arthitis issues? Sprains, pulled muscles? Disc/back problems?

Did the ver put her on any anti-inflammatory or pain meds ro see if those would help?
Otherwise, she's doing well? Eating, drnking, poopng, peeing?

What kind of tests did the vet do?

My 2¢.....get a SECOND OPINION! It's amazing sometimes what a new set of eyes can find. Perhaps an orthopedic specialist.

I'm certainly no vet, but if there's no pain involved, perhaps it's a neurological thing or something related to aging.. Others with more insight will chi e in.

Rosie is clearly an amazing dog and very, very loved and well cared for! Until you can get that second opinion, try and just stay in the moment with Rosie. Remember, she's not worried about a thing. She's just happy being with you and getting her treats snd tummy rubs. Let NOTHING interfere with your treasured time rogether. She seems happy and, whatever the cause, she's enjoying all the loving and spoilingnyou are giving her.

There are links on here for posting pictures. We would love to see photos andhear more avout sweet Rosie.

Sendingyou lots of hugs! Hang in there! We'll get this figured out!

I'm with Sally: first, get a second opinion. When a dog refuses to walk, that is not a dog deciding to be stubborn, that is usually a dog who is in pain. What kind of cancer did she have? What kinds of diagnostic tests has your vet done?  If your vet cannot find anything wrong then take her to another just to be sure.

Next, put her on a diet. The Tripawds Nutrition blog has lots of weight loss tips:

I hope this helps. Please keep us posted, we hope she feels better soon.

Yep, second opinion!  And...more tests.  It sounds like something is brewing.  What's her age?  Is she peeing and pooing OK?  You may want to insist on a urine analysis, a fecal test, and many other tests and xrays, too.  Catch it early!

Keep us posted!  It's scary and frustrating not to know how to heal our pups or what's bothering them.

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Rosie's cancer was osteosarcomo.  She lost her front leg.  She is on arthritis medication and pain pills.  When this all started she was diagnosed with arthritis.  It was a year before they found the tumor.  She had several  x-rays and blood tests.  The problem was that she was a stoic dog.  The orthopedic vet manipulated her legs and found no pain, finally after severlal   vets looked at her they discovered the cancer.  She recovered fast and had no problem with chemo.

I have her on fish oil and cosequin and now someone recommended a new medicine called LifeVantage especially for pets.  I'm trying anything but I am going to get another opinion.

Thanks for the suggestions and for being here.  Mawash

That's great she didn't have any chemo side effects!

Before you try any new supplements be sure to talk to your vet just to make sure it won't interact with her current supplements.

Good for you for getting another opinion. Let us know what happens.
