How do tripawd parents deal with dirty paws? Neiman is used to having his paws wiped clean when he comes in from playing outside, but now I am at a loss. Should I try to get him to lay down and roll over? It is a fairly small entryway for such a big guy to try rolling over - we barely fit there together when I was pregnant. Or should I try to support his weigh on my own shoulder as I lift each foot? It is raining all day today and I am dreading the dirty paw problem.

My people made me learn how to do a rollover so they can clean by big ol' feets. They got a dark rug that they put in the entryway (we live in a RV most of the year so talk about small!), and I do my rollover there. It doesn't always work out as planned, especially if I'm hungry and wanna eat NOW, but most of the time I'm happy to oblige.

It's a tricky thing to do with a Tripawd but you'll get the hang of it. Just try to overlook those paw prints that start to accumulate in your doghouse and everypawdy will be hoppy!

How about avoiding the need altogether with one of these?:

Dog Gone Smart Large Dirty Dog Doormat, Brown

Or this one:

Soggy Doggy 26-Inch by 36-Inch Microfiber Chenille Doormat for Wet Dog Paws, Caramel, Large

This one comes up to 36"x60"!

Kinda pricey but if they work it sure would make things easier in the long run just to have him sit or lay down for a minute on the rug & rub it all off on his own!

Lili was always a squirmy worm when it came to getting her paws wiped.  It's dang near impossible now.  So, I lay a towel across the hallway and get her to hop across it.  If she's feeling super patient, I have her stand there a minute and I wipe the towel around the paws as she stands on it.

Wow!  I'm impressed!  Wipe Jackson's paws?!  PASHAW!  I guess we're pretty dirty around here...

Those mats seem like a good idea.

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Yeah fetchon, we're kinda dirty at our house too.....but usually the dog slobber dripping from the jowls washes the paw prints away!!

Dharma, thank you for the links! I think I will order one of those mats. In the meantime, the vet tech who trimmed Neiman's nails on Thursday showed me how she supported his weight while standing so she could lift each foot. Neiman is so laid back and accepting of pretty much everything, so it has been working well. My husband and are impressed. But it would still be very helpful to have one of those mats!
