Croatia? Wow! Cool! Yep, I believe you're our first Tripawd from Croatia. Congratulations!

Be sure to check out our Gear Blog Fitness page for tips and ideas. We also have free plans to build a "buja" board, here. This helps train him to walking on unstable surfaces, which is one of the best things you can do to strengthen his core muscles and get stronger. That should help a lot.

We know what you're going through, our own Wyatt Ray had a slow start to getting strong but he's doing great now. Do keep us posted and let us know how you're doing with the exercises, we'll try to help.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Welcome Olie!!!! Sorry I missed you when you first came on the forums. He is beautiful and how lucky he is to have you as his pawrent! I love the video....you can see in his eyes the love he has for you and as far as being a couch potatoe.....my tripawd lounges a lot too. But she lounged around a lot before she lost her leg. Your Olie looks really healthy and happy!

All the Best

Update!!

So, 3 months have passed since my last post and i want to give you an update.

I noticed pretty big improvement in Olaf´s energy level. He doesn´t sleep as much as he has before, and he doesn´t get tired as he used to. Quick potty walks are now too short for him, i have to take him to 20-30 min walk around the block. Also, he is much more active on our longer daily walk (45min-1hr), runs around, fetches sticks etc. He does get tired, but I noticed he recuperates much faster. Earlier he would sleep for hours after a walk, but now he just rests for a while and is soon active and ready for another walk.

It´s now 6 months since surgery.

Edit: on some days he even gets hyper-ish, and i have to tire him out by playing fetch or running. Ofc, he can´t play fetch for 2 hours like some dogs, we do it for 15-20 minutes, but it´s huge improvement.

I haven´t managed to do any strenght excercises with him, but we went swimming a couple of times, and he loves it!

Welcome back- what a great update!

My little pug Maggie was also a rear amp- and it took her at least 6 months to build strength and stamina to do half of what she could do before her amp.

I never got a chance to post previously so I wanted to add that Olaf is a beautiful dog, and you are awesome for adopting a Tripawd.

Wow! Olaf is a gorgeous Dutch Shep!!! I think I'm in love, lol

So glad to hear how much he is improving, I think 45 min-1hr walks are amazing! He definitely has youth on his side! Thanks for the update!

Just as an aside... I vacationed along the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia (from Split to Dubrovnik) a few years ago... such a beautiful area!!!

Right hind limb amputated 7/3/12 for OSA, started on alternating cycles of Carboplatin and Doxorubicin and oral Palladia. Single lung met 9/1. Met in the neck muscle removed 9/30. Large mass in sublumbar lymph node 10/2. Rescue chemo with ifosfamide 10/6. Mets to the rib and axillary lymph node 10/21. Started Leukeran and Pred 10/25. Wookie left this Earth for a far better place on 12/4/12. I miss you, Boo, you were my heart.
