Atlas had his first off leash play today. He and Patches are the only two boys on the farm and they have always enjoyed running at each other along the fence line. I think his little goat friend was happy to see him today because he got really excited and they had soooo much fun. Sharing for all those with large dogs who may have a preexisting conditioning to see there is hope. Atlas has wobblers disease - you can see the ataxia in his back leg movement - but he is managing very well.
(Wish I could send this to the neurologist who said Atlas wouldn't be able to handle amputation)

Awesome! And I'm with Erica...he's got us beat, even without wobblers
Hey--do you follow Rolling Dog Farm at all? They have (or have had) wobbler dogs, tripods, etc. I've followed them for years, and absolutely LOVE them. <3

Well if Atlas is a "bad candidate" than someone needs to go back to vet school!
He looks SO great and so happy, this was the coolest thing I've seen all day. To think that he was dismissed as a candidate by one vet is just amazing. It just goes to show you how important it is to get a second opinion when in doubt.
Thank you so much for sharing this big moment with us.
Yay Atlas!

THAT WAS WONDERFUL!! EXHILARATING!! I just marvel t the exuberance and vibrancy that Atlas displayed!
It just made my soul giggle nonstop!
The goat. Patches and Atlas were having g a ball!! Do you ever let them play together or is Patches too protective of "his" goat?
YES! Send the video!! Clearly he and. Hannah's onco.went to same vet school and graduated lowest in the class! Sorry, just a little slip!
Atlas ran effortlessly and was poetry in option...-so fluid....no exertion....no effort......just Atlas being g The Mighty Atlas!! Maybe that extra dose of chemo was like an energy drink:-)
That is o e lissfulh hap dog! I k owyo are just beaming with pride! Good for you Pat!
Don't need no stink in' leash!
Sally and Happy Hannah
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Thanks for commenting you guys. It is really amazing how they can be completely wiped out after chemo and then bounce right back in a couple days. And boy did Atlas bounce this time! We were all rather impressed here at home too. And thankfully seeing no repercussions today, he's still full of energy. We think its the acupuncture getting his chi balanced. He's had about five treatments now and where we haven't really seen any change in the ataxia we certainly see a change in his energy level.
Jerry, I would say to others not only get a second opinion, but to go with your gut. No one knows your dog like you and we knew how Mighty our Atlas was and we knew he was not ready to leave us yet. Was so hard in the dramatic moment of all that diagnosis stuff, but we made it through to the other side, only because we had the help of this community. Once again, just have to say thanks for being here!
Sampson's mom, I don't know Rolling Dog Farm but am going to check it out now. Thanks so much for the tip.
Erica, you doing ok today?
Sally, Patches is the goat and we stopped letting Atlas in the fence about two years ago when his chase drive overruled listening to commands. And Luba (great pyr) didnt appreciate it. Those are her goats. We rescued Luba 9 years ago and she came to us full of fear and very skittish. We don't know what happened to her as a pup but it has stayed with her forever. nothing makes that girl happy like having her goats to be a guardian to. She is Marc's studio dog and chills all day with him, but come 5:00 she's pacing to get back to her flock.
Atla is an athlete! He was just having too much fun and the goat could hardly contain himself!
He is just so stately and beautiful. Pff-f-f-f-f-f-f-t to the neurologist!!
Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.
Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.
that.................. was fan freaking tastic!!
Thanks for sharing.. even with wobbler's.. he has the tripawd lopping down pat! No problems! I would certainly send that video to that woman!!!
big grin here!!
Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Diagnosed 09/26/2012 with Osteosarcoma, amputated 12/4/2012. Had a wonderful 5 1/2 months painfree until he ran for the Bridge on 5/15/2013. Always in my heart, and always a guardian angel of my pack... You can follow his Tripawd Adventures, before and after, in my blog, Frank'n'Farter!
Atlas, I've said it before and I will say it again, YOU ARE A ROCKSTAR!!!!!!!
