i have posted here before about my tripod golden who is fighting Osteosarcoma. She is doing great. I just adopted a tripod lab/pit/mutt mix and i have some questions/concerns about her foot and her posture. A little about her ..... i am told she is about 11 months old. She was found as a stray at about 8 months old and had an old fracture or deformity to her left front leg. It was bent under at the wrist and healing that way. I dont know if the shelter in Georgia did xrays but they amputated in july. That is all healed and looks good. But her remaining front leg seems bowed and stunted (shorter then it should be to have her stand so her back is straight) and she walk with her foot turned in. She is actually walking on the outer part of her foot not on her pad. I am not sure if this is an adaptation from the other front leg being broken for some time or if she has some type of congenital deformity. When she walks, she is hunched over and almost walking on her elbow. I onow if i do not try to correct this she will end up with neck and back problems. She is small so that is in her favor. She is some type of lab/pit/ maybe hound mix. Right now she is 30 pounds but very skinny. She should probably weigh 40-45 pounds. The concept of pitting weight on a dog is foreign to me since i have always had golden and we all know that being skinny is not their problem. Haha. I am taking her to the vet this week and will be getting xrays. I am also going to take her to the rehab vet. Has anyone had an experience like this? Has anyone used a splint to straighten a front leg? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise she is doing great. Getting along with my golden and my pit mix. It has been 9 years since i had a puppy so that is a learning curve. She has already mastered the ramps that are already in place for my tripod golden. I will try to post some pics of her

I think a certified rehab vet is your best bet right now.  I'm thinking that she learned to get around still using the deformed leg and so has a hunched gait.  My pal Shelby had that gait too- if I remember she had a partial leg left when she was rescued overseas.

Your girl is so young hopefully some rehab and an exercise program will get her posture and gait better.

What is her name?

BTW- this made me laugh:

I've had Pugs for 20 years and other than a chronic health problem I have never had a vet tell me to put weight on one of my dogsbig-grin

Her name is Althea but ive been calling her peanut. All of my dogs have nicknames that they get called. Only use their real names when they are in trouble or im being serious. Kinda of like when my mom calls me by my full name. LOL.

she doesnt seem to know ner name at all. She acts more like 6 month old puppy even tho the rescue said she is almost 11 months. She is doing good not going potty in the crate or at night but when she is just playing arpund the house she is peeing in the house. I could have just had her out 30 minutes ago and she will squat and pee on the floor with no warning. She is only peeing on the carpet pathway not the wood floor. It doesnt help that her water isn’t restricted. My tripod golden also nas nasal cancer and she needs unlimited access to water to help wash down her secreations. Im not very worried about the peeing. I dont care about the caroet tiles getting ruined and she will eventually get it. She pees everytime i take her outside. I am just not used to having a puppy. Its been nine years.

Karen - i had to ask my sister who rescues and fosters dogs from Georgia about fattening up Althea. Haha. I have no idea how to make a dog fatter. So i am feeding her three times a day and higher protein snacks. When she eats her third meal i have to feed my other two veggies cause i cant just feed one amd not the others. But my tripod golden definitely does not need any extra meals
