Hi Clare and Meg 🦋🐾
Just catching up with the progress and really impressed at yours (and Meg's) stamina and persistence 👌🏾
I'd say the weather doesn't help at all and probably Meg is just saying "sod the stroller and let me hop around as I do so well"
I have no doubt you will get back to track!
Sending you much love and tons of cuddles to Meg 😘🐮💫✨🌟🌹
Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)
(If you know of a Californian dog shrink who does Skype, Rene, please can you let me know?)
Well she's not a Californian, but Stacy Krafczyk the animal communicator has a knack for reaching animals via intuitive communication.
Honestly I'd chalk it up to the hot weather. I mean when we humans are exposed to unusually hot temperatures, working out isn't the first thing we want to do. Is there any way maybe you can take her for a short swim just to cool her off first, then do a training session?
Why do I not remember that she has a Peanut? You'll have to show us some of her workouts on it, would love to see them.

Mona said it's the hot weather. She prefers to spend her time under a bush beside her stream. When I call her for dinner she peeks her head out from under the bush and opens her mouth like a baby bird. I think this means bring my dish out here. So I do. Heck, why argue with a tripawd?
I know that Megstar thinks you are the best mom. You are as determined as she is.
Thanks for that great photo of her with the yellow peanut. She is absolutely stunning!
Hugs,

Total agreement, sounds like you are getting a taste of the "dog days of summer" over there! And she has quite the fur coat, yes!? I think you are spot on to give a bit of a break but not a total break. Maybe skip a bit of time but not too much.. lord knows if I had her Meg-A-Will I would be about 30 pounds lighter and dieting would be a breeze...
After all the rollercoaster rides sounds like the both of you could both use a little break. No doubt she is probably quite happy enjoying some swimming right now!
(((Hugs ))) to the both of you, I LOVE the picture of the little red peanut on the big yellow peanut

Clare,
I think it probably is the heat. Just my opinion anyway. I know when its so hot & humid here in Iowa that mine really don't even want to go outside to potty.
Maybe try the animal communicator?? She might help. She maybe able to tell you what Meg is thinking about the Wheels. Maybe switch her treats around a little???
Don't get discouraged. Both of you are doing so well. 🙂
xoxoxo

Dearest Clare and darling Meg-a-Stubborn-Star
i think you are both absolutely amazing!!! You are persevering Clare and i honestly believe the pay off will be great!!! I think you are both doing a brilliant job and it shows!! Thank goodness for your overseas Rehab person! Excellent suggestion Rene! I am so pleased to see Meg-a-Digger doing one of the things she does best!!!
I know the heat is unbearable over there, us poor Brits are definitely not used to the sweltering heat and it must be even worse for you as you are sooo not used to it!! Keep up the morning sessions if you can, i think it is important for Meg-a-do-it-Her-Way-or-No-Way to realize that the Meg-a-Wheels are a part of her daily routine, even if she doesn’t go anywhere...
Keep Buggaring On Clare, that is brilliant advice!! Know that you have friends who are supporting you from every corner of the globe and are cheering you both on through the good times and the not so good times... We are there with you on the 10syeps forward and also the one step back (or is it sideways??!!)
i may not be on site very often right now, but know that I am thinking of you both!
Much love to you Clare and tons of love and strength to Meg-a-Star! You are doing great with all that you have Clare!

Okay, like the others, I'm leaning towards the HOT and HUMID weather that you two are NOT used to at all!! I'm also leaning towards the "give it a break" and start fresh at first break in the weather. And what Petra says is also valid, but I think YOU need the break to regroup (moreso than Meg) so you can adjust your energy and confidently visualize how well Meg will do.
Meg has nooooo clue why this is "important". And she certainly has noooo clue as to the "right way". or the correct form"." She DOES know she trusts you explicitly and wants very much to do what you ask her, but because she's so BRILLIANT, it has to make sense to her. And to put on that "contraption" in all that heat and humidity just does not make sense to her!!.
I like Michelle's idea of trying a different yummy treat. Can't wait to see what you come up with. I guess an ice cream cone would be a bit too messy!😂
Clare, I really hope you can take a moment to fully appreciate and celebrate what you and Meg have accomplished in such a short time!! We all can see it! Eddy's could see it!
Lots of love

I totally second that motion 🔨🔨🔨 . Maybe you just need some time out to rest and rejuvenate both of your Clare- And- Meg-A-Brains 🤗
Serious.... Is there a day to do a "thing" that you have not done for a while? Might be too hot for a picnic and a good book but you get what I'm saying. If it was me I'd hit the beach but i don't know what you do or don't have there. I'm one of the most geographically challenged people you'll probably ever know 🤣
Hugs to you, Meg, and your little angel Pie

Gosh, I didn’t realise it had been quite so long since our last update! Apologies. Though in truth, until this week there has been little to update. We took a few weeks off after Meg’s somersault. This was partly because of the absurdly hot weather, which made us both pretty lethargic and I liked to use the early morning relative cool to take her swimming rather than doing wheels work. But also because she had become increasingly resistant to going in the wheels and I didn’t want her to develop “a thing” as bitter experience has taught me that once the MegaStar develops “a thing”, it is exceedingly hard to get her to lose it. The trick to working with Meg is always to let her do what she wants to do (lol) but by cunning sleight of hand to manage things so that what she wants to do just happens to be the same thing you want her to do. Obviously, this isn’t always possible, and the MegaStar is one wily creature. Anyway, I knew that unless I could get myself enthusiastic and excited about the wheels, then I didn’t stand a chance of persuading Meg to share my enthusiasm. So..... a break. And in the meantime, I sought advice from a number of people, including Dr Kramer, who spoke to Leslie Grinnell, founder of Eddies Wheels, who said basically that if Meg wanted to hold her front leg up and scoot then we should let her. This was echoed by a number of people, including Meg’s own rehab vet, who spoke to a colleague in Canada, and also a physio in Germany, and basically international opinion agreed that Meg must be allowed to do whatever she wants to do. Naturally, when I informed Meg of this, she rolled her eyes as if to say she’d been telling me that all along.
So, this week, fresh liver cake and back in the saddle, and waddya know, Meg does seem to be moving much more easily in the cart, and even at speed she is walking her back legs separately rather than bunny hopping. Here are some pics of a triumphant Meg (having got her own way, as she always does) and a very short video of her freewheeling down th farm track. She looks happy again, I think, which is the main thing.
Ruby, Staffy, born June 2022, became a Tripawd, November 2023, adopted January 2024.
Also Angel Tripawd Meg (aka The Megastar), who died in April 2023, aged 14, after seven glorious years on three, and Angel Staffies Elsie Pie and Bille. In the pawprints of giants...
Loved reading this update and seeing the video! She really, really is seemingly having a blast! She's using it so effortlessly!😁
And WOW!! I am so impressed with all the different specialists who are communicating with you, and with each other, about THE ONE AND ONLY MEGASTAR!! I'm sure she's quite pleased to be the center of their attention😎
I do see how there is very little impact on her front legs. We need a video from the rear so we can see how those legs are doing. You're making it look mighty easy Meg!
It's always such a delight to see how well you work with Meg by understanding who she is and what makes Meg tick. We can only imagine the hurdles if she develops a "-thing"! The Meg eyerolls would be fierce and nonstop!
You and Meg are TRULY the GO TO SOURCE for wheels. The knowledge you have gained and so willingly share with us is invaluable.....and so very selfless, and always sprinkled with wit and humor.
Love!

YEAH! Meg rules the world, I love it!
Well you have definitely done all your homework and it looks like a good solution has been reached. She DOES look happy! I hope the weather has cooled down for you.
Good move to wait until you both felt better about training. So many of us get so wrapped up in making something happen as soon as possible that we forget sometimes it's good to just let things be for a while, to walk away, and come back to it when inspawration returns. Nice move, momma Clare!
Thanks for the pupdate, it is much appreciated.

Meg-a-Star, you look Meg-Amazing in your wheels! Of course us Hoomans take a while to catch on to what you are telling us, but as always Meg-a-Willed is going to do it Meg-a-Way!!!
Well done to both of you! Brilliant that you have so much support! You really are a true Meg-a-Star! And Clare, your a true Champion!! Give yourself a huge pat on the back for your perseverance and true understanding as to what Meg needs!
Hugs and love to you both and Spirit kisses to Miss Pie-in-the-Sky
