Bailey is about 2 1/2 weeks post amputation (front right leg) and she is doing fabulously! She is so happy to be up and getting around again and loves the freedom to jump up on her favorite couch. However, she is struggling with getting down. Twice it's ended in a "face plant" -- and since then, I've been lifting her down (thankfully - she's a small cocker spaniel). So -- any advice on how to help her learn to get down from a higher resting spot? Thanks!
That's a tough one. Rehab vets tell us that jumping on and off furniture is a no-no. But it's hard to say no isn't it?! Many Tripawd members have used pet steps and ramps to help their Tripawds on and off the furniture. It may take some training and lots of treats but most dogs and cats will get it after a while.

That's great that Bailey is doing so well! Good!
Yeah, like Jerry said, little steps may be iin order here I know of one member, Marcela, who cut the legs off her loveseat so Bruno could get up and down without hurting himself!
I've taken the cushions off my sofa and have ut fluffy blankets on instead so she can pull herself up and slide herself down without damagingnher legs (rear amp)
Let us kowif any of these suggestions work,
Have a splendid holiday and enjoy the best present ever.....having Bailey home!!
Hugs and love to all!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Consider a small step to help with getting up/down. Although your hound may be able to jump down now, they're putting double the weight on the shoulder and they only have so many 'jump downs' left in it.
At 2-3 weeks post amp you still really should be limiting activity so the remaining shoulder is not damaged due to the increased weight it has to support.
Yes, dogs are pretty active after 2-3 weeks... but they don't know any better. Get a step, limit the jumping, protect that last shoulder.
