HI there.  this is my first post. I rescued Joey 6 weeks ago her front leg had been amputated (allegedly had been abused and they couldn't save it) and she developed an elbow hygroma on her front leg.  Now, her amputated leg has it as well. I am looking for advice, if anyone can help!  THANK YOU>

Hi Margie and Joey, welcome. Your future posts wont need approval so post away.

Joey has such a cute face! I love her photo. She is so lucky to have you looking out for her now. Thank you for that!

Elbow hygromas are tough. What has your vet recommended? Here are some articles we've written about hygroma treatments..

Also, you may want to look at the surfaces she is laying on: are they hard? Can you minimize the hard floor surfaces in your home where she lays? More dog beds, throw rugs, etc., will help minimize the chance of the hygroma getting bigger.

Many people also use DogLeggs elbow protectors. They aren't cheap but they are custom made to your dog's measurements so that they are successful and comfortable for the dog.

I hope this helps. Stay tuned for feedback from others and keep us posted on how she is doing!

P.S. Please consider taking advantage of the Tripawds Foundation Rehabilitation Therapy Reimbursement program. The foundation will pay up to $200 for your first rehab visit with Joey! These sessions are so educational for us, so that we can learn to help our Tripawd be strong and injury free. A therapist can also show you ways to minimize the risk of the hygroma getting worse, through training her to sit and down properly and other motions.
