Good morning.  I'm just reading through some of the forum on recovering amputees falling.  My Rose had her front leg removed back in March and I noticed that she's having a hard time with leg twisting.  She turns her body but keeps her front leg grounded and it twists..almost like its too hard for her to hop and align her leg.. this is causing her to fall also.  Anyone else notice their dogs doing this?  I often wonder if this is too hard on her emotionally too.  She doesn't play much with the other dog anymore and would rather stay in her bed.  She foams at the mouth when she walks too far as well.

Hi Kim and Rose, welcome. Your future posts won't need to wait for approval so post away.

I'm sorry to hear that Rose is having these mobility issues, and I'm glad you stopped by to talk about them. Her issues are not uncommon in new Tripawds but they do need to be addressed to boost her quality of life and ensure she is not in pain. While she may certainly be bummed out emotionally that she can't do what she did before, it sounds like the behaviors you describe (not playing, staying in bed, foaming at the mouth) are pain signals

What is her breed type and age? And why did she lose her leg? What are the kinds of walks (distance/time) she is attempting to do?

It sounds like she can really use some strengthening and stamina building. These are things you can do with guidance from a therapist, and did you know the Tripawds Foundation can pay for your first rehab visit ? Dogs like Rose are exactly why we started the program, to make sure each new Tripawd gets evaluated and their human learns how to help them get strong and stay injury-free. Check out these examples:

Please please take advantage of the program. We can help you find a therapist if you can't find one OK?
