Hello, our 110lb rottie had front amp surgery 2 weeks ago. We currently have a doggie door that is low to the ground and know this will not work for him. He is tall for his breed, shoulder to floor is about 30 inches.
We are going to replace our exterior glass/wood door with a wood door and probably DIY our own doggie door to accommodate his height and the new “hop.”  Does anyone have any tips on this subject? We are bot concerned with the look of the door, just the function for our baby. We are looking to go with a handyman because Lowe’s will be about $800 and a custom doggie door in our glass door is up to $1500. And the customization/order time is a out a month.
Any help is appreciated!

My Brownie also had Front leg amp. We also have a doggie door low to the ground due to having two smaller dogs. On Brownies third day home he started using the doggie door on his own. First he would hop and put his head and front leg through. Then he would hop forward and move his hips one at a time to put one back leg thru and then the other. I was shocked! I didn't think he would ever use the doggie door again. But there were a lot of things I thought he would never be able to do, but he proved me wrong everyday.

My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019.  With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer.  I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud!  He will live forever in my Heart!
