Hello! Long time lurker first time poster!
My pup Sierra (35lbs, ~10yrs old) has been a tripawd for most of her life after losing her right hind leg around 7 years ago before I adopted her. She has always done incredibly well and is the most playful and energetic dog who still brings the puppy energy into her senior years.
Unfortunately she's now facing a new challenge after tearing her CCL in her remaining back leg after turning a little too quickly to look at a squirrel out the window earlier today and we're now facing surgery tomorrow.
She recovered really well from her amputation years ago, but it's daunting to consider the upcoming recovery period with no back leg support for the coming months. We've got a sling and are hoping she'll adapt to it quickly, but I imagine there are many more hurdles coming our way.
Has anyone else worked through a similar situation? Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, especially anything to help get us through the initial recovery period.
Hoping for the best tomorrow, and thanks everyone in advance for any support and suggestions!
Just wanted to pop in quickly so we could get your post approved and get some good solid feedback started.

So sorry you were dealing with this however, we do see it happen. Recovery is rough, but it is doable. When I come back or when others pop in we'll give you links to dogs who have gone through the same thing and recovered.
Also, check into a dog stroller as a help aide.
A quick suggestion once you get him out of surgery is to get an appointment with a Certified Rehabilitation Specialist. The good news is the Tripawds Foundation will pay for the first appointment.
Let us know when he's out of surgery and when he's home. Stay tuned for others to chime in.
Hugs
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Hi Sierra and family, welcome!
As Sally mentioned, this isn't too uncommon, unfortunately. In addition to her information and links, you'll find more remaining leg surgery articles here.
Her small size should make recovery a little easier than it would for a larger dog. Do you have a rehab therapy team lined up? They are super important to recovery if you have access to a good center. If you'd like help finding one let me know!
We will be thinking of you tomorrow, please keep us posted!
