Hi, I hope that I'm putting this in the right place. I was really excited to find this site especially since I was in need of some advice.

Here's so background information on my dog, Tai. He is a smallish cockapoo mix. He was relinquished at the shelter I was working with sarcoptic mange and three and a half legs, he was about 4 months at the time. The vet at the time treated him for the mange but couldn't decided whether or not to apputate the rest of his back right leg or to leave it. She originally thought that he had been born with the three and a half legs because she said no vet would apputate the leg just below the knee cap and leave a small piece (eventually we had to take him in for surgery because he kept dislocating that small piece, the vet originally told me that he was only going to remove it half way up the leg but he instead removed it completely to the hip which I didn't find out until I went to pick him up). I ended up fostering him while they were making up their minds and I ended up adopting him (there was no way he was going back 🙂 ) when he was about 6 months or so. Even in his pictures as a puppy his legs are slightly bowed but as he's gotten older it's gotten worse and I'm starting to get worried. He's a little over 5 years old now and his right leg especially since he's missing his back right leg is becoming twisted. He's still fairly active and the leg doesn't seem to pain him yet but I want to take any preventative measures that I can.

A vet suggested putting the leg in a splint during the day but the ones that I've been finding are really pricy.

So, I'm wondering does anyone have an advise or recommendations on how to help with his front legs being bowlegged?

Thanks.

On The Road

You might want to consult with a canine physical therapist who specializes in these things to determine the proper course if treatment, if anything is required at all.
