Hello! Has anyone tried the “Bionic Pet” Full Limb Vest for their full-front limb amputee? We are considering it for one of our tripawds, as her “good” shoulder is starting to go out - she is very top heavy.  It’s a lot of money, so just seeing what other dogs’ experiences with this are. Thank you!

Hello and welcome! Your future posts won't require approval so post away. Sounds like you have more than one Tripawd?

Interesting contraption. Is this what you are referring to?

We do not know of anyone who has tried it for their front-leg amputee. In looking at the device from our non-veterinarian / rehab therapist eyes, it would appear to us that the lack of any joints would prevent full mobility and articulation of the "limb." This altered gait could result in more harm than good.

We just asked a well-known veterinarian with prosthesis expertise, and an animal rehabilitation therapist their thoughts about it, and are awaiting their feedback.

Meanwhile I'm wondering if your Tripawd has been evaluated by a canine rehabilitation therapist. They can determine the cause of the breakdown of her front end. In many cases, a custom carpal brace, prescribed exercises, and weight loss if necessary, can greatly improve quality of life for the dog.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Yes, that is the contraption! Since she doesn’t have a stump, she wouldn’t be able to move the prosthetic leg normally or bend it, it would be more like a “ski”.  I look forward to hearing what the vet and rehab therapist has to say - please keep me posted! We have not been to a rehab therapist, but would be very interested. Thank you for your response!

I heard back from both the rehab therapist and the orthopedic vet, Dr. Marcellin-Little. They didn't give a conclusive answer about whether it would help or harm, and both say they would need to personally see how the dog moves in it in order to evaluate the device.

Let us know what you decide to do for your girl.
