Well, we've been through many storms (snow and otherwise,) since Ajax's July 2010 amputation. He is, as many of you kmow, awesome. The "wintery mix" that was Nemo in NYC Fri afternoon almost defeated us. He is a super smart Tripawd and took one look at the icy sidewalk and said "no way, mom". So we went back upstairs and dragged out the rubber Pawz boots I bought many years before his amputation and which he flatly refused to wear. With all his new knowledge, he reluctantly saw the purpose and we solved our temporary problem. Now we have 11 inches of snow, so the frozen sidewalk is no more.
I THINK he has recognized how much easier Otis to get up on the hardwood floor when he has some traction . Though 90% of our apartment is carpeted in homage to the Ajax, he invariably lays down on the hardwood. I'd love to give him some traction now that he'll accept it, but hesitate to leave him home for the day in the rubber boots (it seems like they'd be tight and affect circulation after a while). Do any of our 3 legged stars wear shoes at home and if so, what kind? Would love to hear.
Ps you should be aware that he got up amd walked out of the hospital and into a yellow cab on his third day as a Tripawd; however, he had insisted for the previous 4 Yeats that Boots instantly rendered him paralyzed...

I don't have an answer to your Mom's question but I just wanted to say a quick thank you! My kitty Jill is also being treated by Dr. Hohenhaus and she wrote a terrific article about you and how GREAT you are doing and she sent it to me and it made my decision to amputate so much easier!!! You go Ajax!

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. Good to hear from ya Ajax! Happy to hear you're doing so well. FYI: We've moved your topic here to the Hopping Around forum where it is more likely to help others looking for traction ideas.
Heave you read about our recommended traction for Tripawds? Perhaps the Power Paws traction socks may do the trick.

Rica55 we are so glad we could be a help with your decision! It has been 2.5 years since Ajax's surgery. He is now 10.5 years old and was rocking it in Central Park just about an hour ago (FYI it is getting really slippery out, even for 2 and 4 legged creatures)
Hi "admin" thanks for properly place the post. I did read that article about the socks, bur saw the comment re it being hard to get the traction in the right spot. They are pretty reasonably priced so we'll try them regardless, but I wondered what other folks might have discovered. Does anyone leave the RuffWear boots on inside all day?
