tatespeeps, I'm so sorry, I haven't been on the forums in a while and did not know that Tate had passed. I am so sorry for your loss.
I hope my comment to mistysmom was not the reason for making you crabby. I agree with you completely on what you said about prevention versus luck — we can try to do all the right things and cancer may still get us. My comment wasn't meant as an editorial about anyone else, it was about me — most people I know from day to day would tell me that I was crazy or selfish to spend as much as I have on Percy's treatments, so I just don't talk about his illness with them and most don't know that my dog is getting treatment. I felt a little better knowing that I am not the only "crazy" and selfish one around. I'm really sorry if that came across sounding badly, I should have just not said anything about that at all.
Oh MY no! No, no, no, no.
That IS how I feel when I'm feeling bad about Tate, but it was not prompted by your post, and I know no one really means it that way anyway. They're just happy things are going well, and that's good and right because that's the whole point.
I think some people forget things can turn in an instant, regardless of what you do. You can do everything "right" and still lose your baby in a week or a month or whatever. And no one really knows what's "right" anyway. It's never fair but we're all just doing the best we can with a crummy situation.

TATE ~ Forever in our hearts.
That's a relief, thank you for letting me know. I was worried I had accidentally said something insensitive.
You are right...it seems like every once in a while, things happen that remind me that "life is not fair". No matter how much you try to do the "right" thing, unfair things will happen.
We were told by a veterinary professional once that cancer treatment is like throwing pasta on the wall. You toss a bunch of noodles up there, and see what sticks. It can be that imprecise!
With or without coping with cancer, all we can do is our best to try to avoid it (or keep it away) and live life one day at a time.

I made some drastic changes to our canine diets and am very happy. Miss Pegz doesn't have cancer (that we know of) so everything I did was for quality of life ONLY. But we have dealt with "evil squirts" in this house for a long time. This new routine has produced amazing poop...of which only a mother could be proud.
We are doing half high-quality commerical food and half home-cooked diet with salmon oil, chondroitin and multi-vitamins. I also do not give them tap water any more. Our city tap water smells like a chemical meltdown...how good could that be for them? A gallon of spring water costs less than $1.
As my Grandmother (Irish immigrant) used to say...."they (the dogs) are all full of piss and vinegar". Can't tell what is brewing within...but for now they are healthy, happy and spunky. 🙂

Is this what you weren't able to post in today's Nutrition Blog post?
Every bit helps, your changes will do wonders. As for those squirts, check out how we solved that issue with Wyatt Ray :

Thank you! Is Sam too young for chondroitin? She's 10 months old...no wait, 11 months in two days.

We have been told by rehab vet Dr. Waldman that it's best to wait to give supplements like this until there is a diagnosed issue. If you hold off until there is, their bodies won't get used to the supplement and build up an immunity. If a problem does show up, introducing the supplement will have a more powerful effect at lower doses. Then you can work up the dosage from there as the pup ages.
