What are your dogs favorite treats?

What do you like to stuff your Kong with?

Just looking for new ideas for my babies . . .

Thanks!

You probably don't want my ideas!  Cookies and donuts were Comet's favorite!

But when were trying to be healthy last summer, we'd freeze yogurt and peanut butter mixed together. Sometimes I throw some strawberries in it.  It's a lot cheaper than a Frosty Paw (and healthier).  I bought the cups and lids at Smart and Final (a restaurant supply type store). They are just like the Frosty Paws.

I don't have a good perspective on this.  With my quad pugs there is no favorites- if it is edible it is a treat laugh.

Treats??? Treats???? Did someone mention Treats???? Sign me up for whatever fits in my mouth, and no, it doesn't even have to pass as edible!!

Mum sometimes gives me "Bully sticks" and dried chicken breast strips. She tries to buy me treats that are made from one ingredient only - like dried liver chunks. Horse poop counts as one ingredient doesn't it????

Kali (Angel Tai's sister)

Tai – 9 yr old lab. Diagnosed Osteosarcoma Dec 18/09. Front right leg amputated Dec 21/09. Started chemo Jan 7/10. Lung mets discovered Sept 16/10. Valiant to the end on Oct 26/10 when cancer reappeared in a leg and we made the decision to set her free. Forever in my heart where not even cancer can take her from me.

Honest Kitchen's ICE PUPS are a nice grain free frozen treat. I freeze them about 10 at a time in the 4 oz storage containers instead of ice cube trays as HK suggests. Then I can just hand out the cup. Sometimes I mix broccoli or canned pumpkin in for a little variety. Instinct makes a grain free frozen treat, but it's expensive & can be eaten it one bite.

Lamb lung is also a lean favorite. Instinct's grain free biscuits are like crack for dogs.

Sam's Yams (Front Porch Pets) are a a nice Sweet Potato chew, that won't stain your carpets orange. They can be expensive, but when I used to buy them retail, I ordered directly from the company for better pricing.

Broccoli & strawberries & pears are favorites here.  Soome dogs really like apples.

I don't feed anything with peanut butter because of it's inflammatory properties.

You can stuff a Kong with anything as long as you coat the sides & mix the contents with something that thaws semi solid, like cream cheese, a thicker yougurt like Chobani fat free or canned dog food. I usually use a grain free canned food. The consistency of Innova works well….one can is good for 3-4 Kongs. The insides should be big enough pieces to make them work to get out. I usually use several treats for Isabelle, but she can eat most anything without GI upset. When I make them for other dogs, I try to keep it to 1-2 ingredients. Seal the top with wet food mixed with whatever your putting inside- – less messy, more work for the dog. If you feed kibble, you can use that.I don't put raw in Kongs, because it's messy. It's easier to stuff & freeze a few at atime.

Zukes chicken mini's are good training treats (& are a nice weight to be thrown accurately) but they do contain barley & rice.

My favorite is deer poop. I've never had cat poop but I've heard it's yummy. Anything that's been dead a long time is pawsome, too! A few months ago I found an entire elk leg, with the hoof still on it. I wrangled it through the dog door into the house, and the Woman took it from me. Not sure why. But that was an extraordinary score!

Oh Dakota, you're so right. Denali doesn't know what he's talking about, he's never even been to the woods. I love deer poop too!! Cat poop isn't even an appetizer…it's what you eat when you're bored! I really wish we could go to the beach like we used to cuz goose poops OK for everyday.

What's wrong with these women always taking our stuff? Once, at the beach on the hottest day, I found a ginormous dead fish and she took it away, but I remembered where she threw it and on the way back I rolled in it. It got all over my collar with the built in leash & it broke when she took it off to wash it. I ran away & rolled in it again & got to eat some. Then I wouldn't get in the water and the lifeguard yelled at her because I didn't have my tags on & said he was gonna give her a $300 ticket ….She was so mad by the time the fish insides & I got in her new car! I guess she should have just let me keep my prize in the first place…

Susan, you had no idea what you were starting, did you?  I'm sorry.

Between Isabelle's nasty fish, Dakota's revolting elk leg, Cosmo's bugs and Kali's horse poop, there should be some kind of treat here for stuffing into a Kong.

Oh I dunno, I go along with Isabelle.  Deer poop's the best, especially frozen!  Poopsicles!  And dead fish for rolling in.  Actually, anything dead to roll in unless it's frozen, then you have to try to bring it inside to thaw out first.  But that almost never works.
