It has been a mixed day for us. Shadow had his amputation surgery a month ago today. He was 11 years old, yet a good candidate for amputation. He had synovial cell sarcoma in his front left elbow.  He was a model patient and came through his surgery well.  His recovery progressed very well, without complications.  On the 12th night everything suddenly changed and he died quietly and peacefully by our sides.  We did not have an autopsy done.  We just wanted to lay him to rest. Heart or respiratory failure, we will never know.  For those of you who have found yourselves suddenly thrown into this difficult predicament of to amputate or not, we want you to know we made the right decision for him. We had just hoped for so much more.

Oh my, I'm so sorry to read of your loss of your boy.

I'm sorry you didn't get to have more time with him as a Tripawd. I hope you have some peace in knowing he passed quietly by your sides.

We lost our girl in January so know how hard this is.
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

OH! I'm so very, very sorry!  This is so heartbreaking.  And what a hard day this must be for you.

I'm just so sorry. Sometimes there are no answers as to what happened but he went peacefully with those he loved. And I'm sure that is how he wanted it.

My heart goes out to you and your family.

I am so very sorry that you didn't get more time with Shadow.  It sounds like everything was going exactly as it was supposed to, how upsetting for you.

All I can say is he sounds like you guys would have done anything for him (as evidenced by the surgery) so he had wonderful people to be with, and to leave here surrounded by them and loved by them is a gift we all wish for in the end.

I am so sorry for your loss, run free now Shadow.

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us.  Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.

Heartfelt sympathy going out to you for your loss of Shadow. No amount of time is never enough but I am very sorry that you didn't get more time with him. I lost my Great Dane Valentina 11 weeks ago and I know how terrible it is. Time does help but nothing can ever take the place of our heart Dogs. Prayers of peace and comfort for you and your family.

So sorry for your loss and that you never got to have the time that you had hoped for.  But I'm sure Shadow knew how loved and cherished he was.

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. I'm sorry Shadow left you so suddenly. He lives on in your heart and so will always be by your side.
I hope that soon the good memories of your 11 years together will bring some smiles through the tears.

I am so sorry; I don't think I've heard of another sudden loss like that in my time here.  Synovial cell isn't an aggressive cancer, so I know you were hoping for many more years-- I don't know what to say to you other than I am so very terribly sorry.  Thinking of you.  So many at the bridge to welcome your Shadow.

Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011.  Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs.  If love alone could have saved you…
