Dear Angel Jake's Mom:

I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your precious Jake.  He was such a beautiful boy.  I lost 2 other dogs the past 2 1/2 years, not to cancer, but to complications from old age and you are right, it is never enough time and they will always be in your heart forever...

I don't have a blog or You Tube website yet, but I do have tons of pictures of Maddie on my facebook page.  If you have facebook, you can send me a friend request (Kathy Mauger).

Today was such a terrible day that turned out ok in the end, and I am so very thankful for that.  I was so glad when the vet told me her lungs and heart sounded great.  I know that when we get through this little bump in the road that she will have the strength to continue her fight.

I will be thinking of you during this difficult time that you are going through.

Love,

Maddie's Mom

Thanking God for answered pray on this one!  Our girl is not done fighting yet!

Kathy & Maddie,

Boy can I relate to what you are saying.  About a week ago Cherry's general condition took a nose dive.  Yea - I prayed that Cherry had "only caught a bug."  She had a hard time standing, her legs were shaking both standing and lying down, she had extreme diarrhea, she was eating about 10% of her normal amount and she vomiting.  Yea - I prayed that Cherry had "only caught a bug."  Cherry's 12th birthday was on Wednesday, her one year ampuversary on Thursday, and I had planned suprise parties for her primary care prividers on Friday.  Yea - I prayed that Cherry had "only caught a bug."  It was Sunday morning, Cherry's Mom was running a half marathon in Monterey with Cherry's primary vet, and I was alone with Cherry.  Yea - I prayed that Cherry had "only caught a bug."

Like you, I will be thanking God for an answered prayer for this and so very much more.  Cherry turned the corner, improved exponentially, and our three day celebration went on as planned - including the trip to Baskin and Robbins for a soft serve ice cream cone for Cherry.  I or rather Cherry will be posting the story along with photos and acknowledgements to all that have made this possible.  Yea - I prayed that Cherry had "only caught a bug."

I will add to that prayer that you will be able to create many more fantastic memories with Maddie,

Bob & Cherry

PS: To Jerry, I actually had written this previously but it seams to have disappeared in cyber space.  (Operator Error!!)  If it does show up, chose the better phrasing and delete the other.  Thanks

Dear Bob & Cherry,

Maddie & I are sooo glad to hear that Cherry had "only caught a bug" and that she improved in time for her birthday/ampuversary party!  Thanks for adding Maddie in your prayers.  We will keep Cherry in our prayers as well.

Maddie seems to catch something everytime so goes off of antibiotics.  So, her vet is going to keep her on them long term so hopefully we can keep this under control.  Cherry's bug was much worse than Maddie's is, so I can only imagine how you must have felt.  Maddie has the fever and the shaking but is still eating and has no vomiting or diarrhea.

I am just so relieved.  I actually went into the vet this afternoon and told them that they had to save her because her daddy is in North Carolina until Tuesday night or Wednesday taking care of some things at his moms place because she passed away the end of September and he can't lose his girl while he's away because it would just devastate him that much more if he wasn't here.  The vet told me she was just so glad to be able to give me good news that we could fix the problem and then the even better news that her lungs and heart still sound very good.

Please keep me posted on Cherry's progress and I will continue to post updates about Maddie.

Love & prayers,

Maddie's Mom

Wow!  I bet you are so relieved!  I hope the antibiotics help fast to get her fever down and that she drinks lots and lots of delicious water!!!

I am happy to read that Maddie is going to be ok, it was sure a good thing you got her in to see the vet today and they were able to take care of that bump in the road. Hope soon she will be back to feeling good again and continue to have the strength to fight the fight.

Dear Laura & Jack and Jo Ann Tasha,

Thanks so much for your concern for Maddie:)  She is doing better today.  The vet called to check up on her and phoned in a prescription for cipro which she will start taking in 9 days after she finishes up her current antibiotic.  I told them she wasn't drinking enough today so they told me to give her some watered down chicken broth and that worked like a charm, she drank every drop!  At 1 o'clock this morning I heard her trying to move around so I helped her get up and move from the blanket in the kitchen to her bed in the den.  I got up at 6:30 to fix her breakfast and was starting to bring it into her and she got up by herself, came into the kitchen ate every bite and then went right to the back door to go out and go potty and came right back in to her blanket.  Then she heard some dogs outside barking so I left the back door open to see if she would try to go out and she went out on the deck and sunned herself for about an hour, and she started barking and howling back at the neighborhood dogs:)  Then I got her to take a good drink of water and she came back in.  I just gave her the tramadol since her back legs are still weak, sore and shaky and she's in the den with me resting.  I even put my cell phone on speaker so her dad could here her howling up a storm outside, I knew that would be a big relief to him and it was.  I will continue to update how she's coming along.  I am so relieved and grateful that she is bouncing back yet again.  She's my Maddie, the wonder dogSmile

I am glad that Maddie is feeling better.  Tazzie was also prone to infections and had to take Cipro for 6 weeks at a time.  I found that giving her 800 mg of cranberry (2 capsules of the NatureMade brand) helped prevent her bladder problems and she only had 2 infections after her amputation.

Is Maddie on on NSAID like Metacam because that might make her feel quite a bit better and help her joints.

Kathy... I tried to find you on Facebook under Kathy Mauger... but there were several... How about you do a friend request to me... Marguerite Wotoczek-Obadia (I guarantee you that I'm the ONLY one!) and then I'll accept it! I really want to see all the pictures of your sweet Maddie!!  I also have some pictures of Jake on my Facebook...

Hi Pam,

Thanks for the info, I will pick up some cranberry for Maddie.  She is on an NSAID - Tepoxalin (Zubrin) - it's a new one that University of Penn highly recommended for her and thank goodness our regular vet got it for us at a decent price so that helps a lot.  My biggest concern right now is this fever, she just still feels so hot to me.  They said the fever is what's making her legs sore and hot and why she's so shaking, it's just tough waiting for the antibiotics to really kick in.  I'll update again tomorrow.

Kathy, it's good to hear she had a better day, we hope they continue. Thanks for mentioning Tepoxalin, we hadn't heard of it. Hope the  meds kick in ASAP. We'll be thinking of you two.

I'm glad that Maddie is on an NSAID but then it is a little concerning that she had that high of a temperature.  My dog Kona takes Zubrin and it is very safe but should also help bring a fever down.  I would go to the pharmacy and get a digital thermometer and take her temp a few times a day to see if it is starting to come down.  Usually antibiotics wil bring the temp down in a day or two.

Hi Pam.

Yes, I'm still concerned about her and am going to call the vet and take her back for a re-check exam tomorrow.  Last night her temp was 102.8 I just took it again and it's 102.3 so it is coming down.  Hopefully the vet will feel she's improving.  I'll post an update tomorrow night after we get home from the vet.  Thanks for your help and concern.

Hi Maddie's Mom,

Hope that Maddie's temp goes down soon... Is she panting alot? As Dr. Pam said, it takes a day or two for the antibiotics to kick in... Definitely make sure you have a good quality digital thermometer to take her temps at home...

I know it's probably unrelated, but whenever I'd bring my 2 boys in to the vet for a visit... they'd be so excited and panting like crazy... that both their temps would shoot up to 103... But then they'd come home and after a few hours... temps were back to normal. It would happen every single time they went in for their annual visit...
