I've been laboring how to start this topic. I couldn't even think of what to title it. I think writing it makes it real, and I'm sick to even see it in print.

Last Saturday night, after a lengthy seizure and the discovery of lung mets, we had to let our boy go. Our most immediate wish at that point was that we could bring him home, at least for a bit, but he wasn't able to breathe without oxygen, so it wasn't to be. His brain tumor had returned, and the co-occurring issues made making him comfortable impossible.

At about eight, we held him close, and whispered his name and told him we loved him. I had my head on his chest, and know the very moment his soul slipped away from us.

We're so grateful for the friendship and support we have received over the years through this site. Despite our unwavering grief at this point, we know everything about Lincoln's life was a victory. Lincoln lived his life very, very large, and I refuse to let one awful moment erase that.

I'll have other dogs, but I'll never have another one like him, and for that I'm grateful. He's all the more precious to me because he could never be replicated.

In his honor, I'll close with a quote, and I'll ask you all to continue to talk about the big, red dog who beat the odds over and over again. In doing so, we'll keep him around. It's like one of my friends says, "Love Never Ends".

"Let no one weep for me, or celebrate my funeral with mourning; for I still live, as I pass to and fro through the mouths of men." Quintus Ennius

I am so, so sorry to read this.  Just last weekend I thought about him and re-read many of the entries you wrote in his blog.  He is a beautiful boy and he did in fact live a large life thanks to you for saving him and giving him the life he deserved.  Some dogs are really special and I know I will always remember Lincoln.  Thank you for sharing his story.

Harley is an 8 year old Golden Retriever. Amp surgery for an infiltrative lipoma canceled due to two masses in chest. A rescue, he found his forever home on 3/18/07 and left for his eternal home on 1/09/13. His story and medical history are at http://myharley.....pawds.com/

I am so very sorry for your loss. I didn't know Lincoln very well so I've just been reading some of his blogs. What a life!!!  You gave him a loving and happy home and were there by his side through many challenges.  He is an inspiration. You are an inspiration. Thank you for sharing his story. I know it is a difficult time for you and I hope that the beautiful memories that you have will help to ease your pain.

I am so very sorry that you had to say good-bye to Lincoln. I have absolutely loved reading your blog and he's been such an inspiration to me. The picture on your blog header never fails to make me smile.

You were so lucky to have Lincoln in your life and he was so lucky to have you as his pawrents too.

For now, be good to yourselves, grieve and start the healing process.

Sending you {{{hugs}}} and thoughts of comfort and peace,

I saw the subject title and couldn't believe what I was reading.  Words cannot express how sorry I am to hear Lincoln has gone on.  I think I thought of him as one of those guys that would just be around forever.  He beat so many odds, and was such a very strong boy.  He was loved by everyone here on Tripawds, and I know he loved his family beyond what words could describe.  I wish I had some better words of comfort for you.  But I think we will all need a bit of comforting tonight.  Please accept our deepest condolences.  Each and every first day of summer I will think of it as the beginning of the Summer of Lincoln.  Take care.

Oh, my heart hit the floor when I read that title. It took me a second to click on it, I guess because I didn't want it to be true. I am truly sorry. I too just kind of thought he was one that would be here forever. What a magnificent boy Lincoln was, and he had a magnificent life with you to match. I'm sure Sammy was waiting for him at the bridge, tail banging to see his buddy again. That sweet picture makes me cry. Isn't it weird how you get so attached to these pooches just from reading their stories? We share in your grief and hope for peace for you guys.

There are certain times when a topic title grabs us by the heart and tears us down. Usually it is because a hero we have actually met, has gone on to the Bridge. Right now is one of those times.

Lincoln was a true hero. We featured him in the first Tripawd Heroes book. He shared one of our funniest KillBarney blog posts. And we are honored to have stroked his beautiful body. The summers will never be the same.

Run free sweet boy.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news.  I remember The Summer of Lincoln 2.0, when we were just starting Tate's Summer 1.0, that gave me hope.  But I love that he got old and gray, what a blessing that boy was.

I'll share my own favorite quote:

Is not to die."

The wind has been knocked out of my sails, it's hard to believe that the Mighty Lincoln has left this earth.

I can't stop the tears from falling. He was an incredibly heroic, special boy. What an honor it was to meet him in person and smell his sweet fur. What an amazing life he had, and what a role model he will always be to us.

When Tripawds members feel like the odds are against them, when they mourn for things that have not happened, we will always remind them of the story of Lincoln, and how beating the odds is always a possibility. His story will always give hope to many, and shine on in the hearts of all of us.

Oh Lincoln. We will miss you like crazy. But we hope that someday, we will be reunited and be able to sit at your paws, to listen to your wise points of view about the meaning of life.

May you run free, healthy and whole, for eternity. You are always, always loved by many.

xoxo

rhonda, our hearts are heavy, but we too celebrate the life that lincoln lived, one that you graciously shared with all of us.  like gayle, lincoln started as a 'throw away', and they both proved to be the best of us.  and yes, my friend, our saving grace is knowing that love never ends.

I'm so sorry that it was Lincoln's time to journey to Rainbow Bridge.  I just read some of Lincoln's blog and I could feel the love that you have for him in your words.  In time, may memory of your sweet boy bring smiles and happiness instead of only tears and sadness.

Godspeed Lincoln.  Run free with all of the heroes that have gone before you.  Send your mommy and daddy pennies when you can.

Hugs and chocolate labby kisses,

oh sweet Lincoln your happy disposition and big heart in the face of so many obstacles were an inspiration to many.  I'm so glad we got to meet this summer.  I'll always remember you smiling in the sun.
