Alison, it took us awhile to put that video together.  I needed my oldest son's help and we both had to be ready to do it. Of course we were in tears through the process.  You made it through it too and you did an incredible job putting together a beautiful Shelby tribute!

It is taking us awhile to realize there will never be another Libby.  This realization will open our hearts to a dog in need of a new home. We're getting there.

Hugs,

Amy & Spirit Libby

Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13.  Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14.  She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self.  Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14

This is another of those lessons you learn.  It is OK that there will never be another LIbby.  When you are able to open your heart to another, you have crossed a threshhold.   Emmi came into our lives 6 months after Trouble's passing.  I wasn't ready, but knew Bob needed her.  And Duke needed her.  He grieved terribly when Trouble was gone.  It may be that the entire family isn't ready when the person who needs another four legged friend desperately is. You work through it, and in time they win a place in your heart. Never replacing Libby, but building their own pathway.

Looking at the plus side - taking Emmi from rescue not only gave her a home, but opened the door for the rescue to take in one more in need. The cycle is life saving.

Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul.  Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

I have thought of this 100 times over. I've even considered fostering but fear I would be a "foster fail" right out of the gate, ha.  Thank you for your wise words.  I know you're right.

My hubby said today, "Some people never re-marry when they lose a spouse because the pain is so great. Maybe that's how I feel about getting another dog."   I told him that I like to keep in mind that the years of love and enjoyment outweigh the grief when they're gone.  We both go back and forth.  In the meantime, we keep on loving and appreciating our Sammie girl.

You might remember, that was how I felt when I 'rescued Jasper". I wanted to take her back or rehome her for about 4 - 5 months. In fact, it wasn't, probably, until I took her to Seattle w/me over Thanksgiving break that I fully felt bonded w/her. And it's just been in the last couple of months that I've felt REAL love for her.  I think it was when my mom (in Seattle) offered to 'take Jasper' and I was like, Jasper's not up for adopting!!! LOL

Shelby was the love of my life .. she is how I measure the days and she is still the first thought in the a.m. and the last thought at night. I truly didn't believe I would ever love again and I do/have... I know Shelby will still be the FIRST I look for when I pass away BUT until then. I am thankful that she found a way to send me Jasper to help bring me some smiles ...

Much love ...

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Oh Alison, what you said was so eloquent and touching...I'm wiping my eyes.  I admire your adventure into adopting Jasper Lily (LOVE that name!).  You said you wanted to re-home her for awhile before you finally bonded and I guess I worry about that.  Then I think I'm thinking too deeply and should  just let it happen.  Hubby and I share an equal passion for dogs so I feel it's kind of our obligation/responsibility as citizens to provided a home and lots of love to a dog in need.  It will happen. Thank you so much for your love and support.

Edited to add...PS...guess whose banner popped up when I posted this?  Shelby's!!  Love it. :)
