In less than a week...
Months turned into weeks
Weeks into days
days into hours
hours to minutes
minutes to breaths
And today my Samdog ran out of time.

So fast. Nobody saw it coming. He takes my heart with him. If only it were enough.

Today is our day to be sad.

Samdog was a 10 yr old Golden and retired SAR dog. We found a bone mass on 8/17/12, needle biopsy showed sarcoma 8/22/12, amputation on 8/23/12, post-amp biopsy confirmed osteosarcoma on 8/28/12. Sadly, we found lung mets on 11/27/12 and my Spirit Sam earned his wings on 12/2/12.

We didn't know where we were headed and we don't regret a single step along our path. It all happened too fast, but he left a legacy of love that we will always cherish. Good bye my heart.

My heart weeps for you.  I was just reading your blog post and then I crossed over to see this.  I can't quite believe it. This has all happened so unbelievably quickly.

You did everything humanly possible for Samdog. He knew how much you loved him. That means everything to our dogs. Sometimes the cancer is just too strong, too aggressive.

I know nothing I say can ease the pain you are feeling right now. Just know that there will be many of us shedding tears for Samdog today and wishing you strength. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Many many hugs

Karen, Ruby and Spirit Magnum

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. With a sad, sad heart I read your post. You and Samdog have been in my thoughts all week-he was and is is so loved. At times like this we all wish we could somehow make the pain a little easier to bear. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayer. What a beautiful boy-may his memory give you strength.

Joan and Lily

Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.

I am so sorry -- I know how much you loved him and how heartbroken you are.  He is now your special angel watching over you.  I know that memories are never enough but you and Samdog shared a special bond and I hope that will be some comfort to you.

Harley is an 8 year old Golden Retriever. Amp surgery for an infiltrative lipoma canceled due to two masses in chest. A rescue, he found his forever home on 3/18/07 and left for his eternal home on 1/09/13. His story and medical history are at http://myharley.....pawds.com/

I am heartbroken for you.  I know how it feels when the time runs out.  How helpless, how sad, how alone you feel. The hardest thing in the world is when they say that final goodbye.

My heart is with you.  Hoping the happy memories will soon replace the heartbreak you feel today.

RIP sweet Samdog.  Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

I'm so sorry you have lost your boy.  Sam was a true Tripawd Warrior, and he fought a brave battle against this dreaded disease.  All of us here in these forums mourn his loss with you.  His memory will live on with you, and with us all, forever.  We'll be keeping you in our thoughts.

I'm so sorry. Our pain begins when we end theirs.
There is no amount of time that can ever be "enough" with our beloved pups.
We are thinking of you and wishing you peace.
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. I do not have sufficient words to tell you how very sorry I am to hear this.  As hard as this is on us at this sad stage, please know that Sam was happy every moment because he knew true love.  Please know that this community mourns with you and we send all of our strength to you at this difficult time.

Lisa

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11.  A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

I am so sorry.  We knew Sam got bad news, but this happened so fast.  You did your best for your boy and today gave him one last gift.  I know how quiet and sad these days are.

Sam will always be in your heart and so will always be by your side.

My heart aches for you.  I just read your blog and I can see how much you loved Samdog and how much he loved you.  This journey that we are all on is so difficult and heart wrenching.  You gave all to your baby and were there for him until the end.  He will be watching over you and giving you strength to carry on.  Think about the good times and that will bring a smile to your face.  Once again I am so sorry and I will be thinking about you.

Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Oh no! I am so sorry to hear about SamDog!  That was so sudden.  I have tears in my eyes.

Thank you for sharing your blessing of SamDog with us.  With out your story and inspiration I would have been lost with Jake.  For this, I know there is a SamDog angel on Jake's shoulder.

Now he runs free, no cancer, no pain, on the other side of the bridge waiting until he can be with you.  Until then, may you carry his love in your heart.

I am so, so sorry for the loss of your beautiful boy. You did the bravest and kindest act of all to set him free from a body that just couldn't work anymore.

I know he will live forever in your heart.

Right hind limb amputated 7/3/12 for OSA, started on alternating cycles of Carboplatin and Doxorubicin and oral Palladia. Single lung met 9/1. Met in the neck muscle removed 9/30. Large mass in sublumbar lymph node 10/2. Rescue chemo with ifosfamide 10/6. Mets to the rib and axillary lymph node 10/21. Started Leukeran and Pred 10/25. Wookie left this Earth for a far better place on 12/4/12. I miss you, Boo, you were my heart.
