Well, our baby girl was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on November 13. With Thanksgiving close, we were not able to get to the Oncologist until November 27th. We had already started her on holistic remedies and so many vitamins. Amputation was not an easy decision because she was an 8 year old Great Dane with a front leg tumor. We were keeping her comfortable with pain meds but decided to consult with the surgeon which we did yesterday. An hour after we got home she emergently asked to go outside because she had started vomiting. I assumed it was the new pain med I gave her but her actions quickly turned to signs of bloat. I rushed to the vet and unfortunately confirmed the diagnosis. How could we put her through one surgery only to fight more? Our sweet sweet Gita left us yesterday and we are completely broken. Although we never got to an amputation, this site, forums, and people are absolutely incredible! Thank you for all the knowledge here and support during our short time.

With a heavy heart,

Sally and Paul Bradley

Ooooh sweetie pie 😔

I am so, so, so sorry to hear Gita earned her giant silver wings 🕊

These are devastating news and totally unexpected ...

Her time had come and for reasons we will never know she was spared amputation surgery.

Probably everybody at the bridge were so excited to have her they could not wait one moment longer ...

But fear not, she is in peace, truly happy and pain free surrounded by so many happy Angles including lots and lots of other goofy Danes such as my baby girl Eurydice.

Gita will be with you forever in yours and Paul's hearts and she will definitely let you know sooner or later she is still with you albeit in energy form 🌟

She is and always will be your baby girl 💕🎀💕

😘😘😘🐮💫✨🌟🌹

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)

Oh no! I'm so sorry to read this, my heart goes out to you.

Gita knows you did your best and only had her best interests in mind. She left this earth so suddenly, but that bond that grew between you is everlasting and eternal. Her spirit will never grow old or sick or tired, it will always shine brightly in your hearts. May all the good times you shared together help you smile in time, and rejoice in all the gifts she gave to your pack.

Thank you for letting us know, it's not easy to share this kind of news. Please know that you are always welcome here and part of this community. Gita is forever an honorary Tripawd in this corner of the world.

I'm crying here as I read this.  I'm so so sorry.  I know you love her so much, and this is so difficult.  Facing osteosarcoma is devastating but bloat, isn't that what all we Dane owners secretly fear more than anything?  It comes on so quickly and without warning and there is no time.  You had the courage to end her suffering and for that I know she is grateful.  She's running on four pain free legs and I'm sure all the Greatest Danes were gathered together at the bridge to greet her.  Take care of yourself Sally and know that Gita loves you as much as you love her.
