Rocky got to take his E-Collar off tonight. He loves having it off. He is starting to get around so much better. He isn't bumping it as much anymore.

Now that his collar is off, he found he can lay on his back to get his tummy rubbed....

Here is some pictures of him.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Oh, what a sweetie! He certainly deserves some belly rubs!!

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end.  On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

That is one happy pup.  Others may have suggested this, but a t-shirt works great to further protect the incision from licking and gnawing by curious, itchy little puppies.  The  incision does look great by the way!

Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011

Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011.  Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs.  If love alone could have saved you…

He looks so happy!!! You won't even think twice about the missing leg once his fur is grown in!

-Nicole and Chloe

Chloe became a rear amp tripawd on 7-29-10. Another tumor was removed on front leg 2-20-14. Found 3rd tumor on neck 2-2015, but she's still kicking cancer's butt at age 14. Chloe's blog

Oh my gosh - I am so in love with him!  I just think his so adorable and so happy seeming!

And I can't help myself - but he reminds me of a very young Comet before she turned light colored.

Rocky, I'm just so happy for you!  I know you are going to make your new mommy and daddy very happy!

Her Retired AvatarComet - 1999 to 2011

She departed us unexpectedly  January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.

Rocky has been 2 days off his pain meds! I am happy to say. He has even figured out how to get up in the chair with Dad. Rocky is a A/C vent hog... He loves the cold air that comes up...... He has to share it with his Monkeybutt Brother Loki...

Do have a couple of questions though....

How do we help him build up his stamina? We get him outside, he immediately wants to come right back into the house.

How many of you have put your fur-kids on Probiotics? What kind of things did you notice them on it?

I started Rocky on them right after his surgery. I am amazed at how fast it is healing. The redness has completely gone out of it. That is the only thing I had him on. I wonder it that has boosted his immune system. I now have him on a multi-vitamin that my vet recommended.

Cometdog- you are right he does look like Comet.

Rocky looks like he is laughing....

Rocky -  you are awesome!!!  He's doing so well!  It's still really early, I wouldn't worry to much about the stamina yet.  Give him time.  He may be a little unsure of going outside yet.  He feels so nice and secure in the house.

The fact that he's already so happy and playful is a really good sign.

Keep on healing!

It took Abby about 6 weeks or so (if I'm remembering right) to get her stamina back.

But even then, it wasn't totally the same. She couldn't do long walks in our neighborhood anymore. She could only go ~20 min in our neighborhood (on leash) and would need to lay down to rest. But at the beach (off leash) she could easily run/walk and hour! Front leg amps have an easier time going fast, so it was easier for her to go off leash and go at her own pace, rather than have to go slow and walk (well, more of a hop) next to me.

Hope that helps. Rocky is so adorable!

Great to hear he is doing so well. Its still early days and his stamina will slowly build up again but it will take time. After his horrendus experience of life so far he could be a bit insecure and just wanting to stay safe inside but im sure he will get there. How many days is it since his surgury? Kayla took many weeks till she had anything near her old stamina back then she would have a growth spurt and have to start again laughing even now she doesn't have the stamina of a four legged pup her age but she is pretty close. He looks so happy and thats whats important at the moment.

good luck

He is just so darn adorable, I am so thrilled he found you. How could anyone do any harm to that dawg?!

I agree, he needs more time. After about a month they start to get around much better. But for starters, you can review this blog post we recently wrote, "Why Longer Walks Won't Strengthen a Tripawds Leg Muscles"

Our gear blog has tons of advice like this, just poke around and you'll find lots.

About probiotics, this post, "Are there Priobiotics in Your Tripawds Regimen" shares some of what we've learned.
