First of all I am so sorry that this happened to your "baby". As bad as it seems you will read literally hundreds of postings telling of dogs with great lives as Tripawds. You are very lucky she survived the accident and they are able to help her. You will help her adapt to her new life. The first week or two can be tough (probably tougher on you) so be prepared and ask lots of questions. Read the postings on the forum and the blog and reach out to all of us who have been before you.

She will look to you and you will be strong and couragious for her, hang in there, I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Grateful for every moment we had with Paris…..no regrets!

I am so sorry about that horrible accident. But please know your "baby" will be fine as a tripawd. Jerry just posted a video from a fellow tripawd - Samwise. I urge you to check it out- it will make you see that being a tripawd really doesn't change anything. It is a great video!

Our Wrigley was a tripawd due to cancer. She amazed us each and every day after her amputation - she continured to take her swims in the river- she continued to catch snowballs ( you'll see her pop up everynow and then in the forum pics) , she  went on walks( just a little slower) , she chased the squirrels.... there was really nothing she didn't do as a tripawd that she did on 4 legs.

She did finally lose her battle, but we were so blessed to have the extra time we did with her. I have no regrets with Wrigley as a tripawd.

Best of luck to you- I wish you a speedy recovery and hope all goes well. ( and I hope someone catches the jerk who didn't think they needed to stop)

You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear about such a horrible accident for your girl.  Don't fret and worry about the amputation.  Once she is past the recovery period, you'll never know she has the challenge of only three legs.  They are amazingly resilient. She will surprise you at every turn and teach you things about living you would never have known otherwise.

Tomorrow and the next two weeks will be tough, as said before more for you than her, but you have lots of support waiting here for you when you need someone.

Sorry to hear about doodle, but we're glad you found us. You will find loads of advice and support here in the formums, and in Jerry's three-legged dog blog. Be sure to check out our posts addressing the top ten questions about amputation for dogs we have received.

Your pup may never be the same exactly, but in many ways she'll be better. For starters, her amazing strength and resiliency is sure to shine as soon as she gets through the next couple weeks of recovery. Believe it or not, most dogs handle recovery much better than their people do.

Be sure to search these forums for any specific concerns, as most questions have been answered. Provide updates to this topic so everyone can follow doodle's progress and provide advice. Most evenings you can find us in the tripawds chat room, and there is now a forum for scheduling live chats. And if you have any veterinary questions, post them in the Ask A Vet forum. FYI: Tazziedog (Pam) is a vet.

Best wishes for a speedy complete recovery!

I know what you're going through. My poodle, Angel got hit by a car 19 days ago.  Her left back paw was hanging on my the skin, so they cut it off.  Today, actually right now, they are removing the rest of the leg.  A week ago, they did surgery and plated her broken pelvis (on the other leg).  My heart's beating out of chest right now, but I have confidence that she'll heal and be the fiesty, happy poodle she was before.  I just have to be strong for her.  When I'm sad or nervous, I just get on this site and get my feelings out.  This site has saved my sanity.  We'll be here for you.  And your baby will make it through this and live a happy life.
