Welcome to tripawds and great news that your girl is already doing so well post surgery. I bet you will be amazed at how well she adjusts. Don't be surprised if she seems to have a bit harder time a few days in. Post surgery they are pumped full of good drugs. Surgery is tough but she's young and a strong breed and is going to do great.

Yay Sasha! She did great, just the way Shepherds typically do after surgery!  I hope she's back with your pack soon, she's probably going crazy trying to get home.

If she has enough stump left, she would probably be a good candidate for a prosthesis. Check out our interviews with OrthoPets for more details.

Wow, how scary!  Sounds like Sasha is in good hands, though.  The first couple of weeks can be tough, but after that, she should be back to her old self.

Let us know if you have any questions!

We are currently 6 days post op... We had a scary day yesterday Sasha managed to split 2 stitches and had a very nasty discharge.. Rushed her to the vet and found she has a very small infection.. Dr flushed her wound and gave new bandages, she seems more comfortable right now.. This is so scary.. I know in time it will all be better, just hate watching the poor girl suffer.. Everyone in this forum us great.. So happy I found it..

Also we are having her blood sent to Bob Glass to ensure that her blood is free and clear of the Pythiosis, once we get the results we will know if she needs to take the fungal medication if not.. In the meantime we are giving her tablets to be safe

Sasha! Quite scaring your Mom!

I knkw it seems like the ups and downs of recovery are more "downs" than ups! Pretty soon though, the UPS will take over and all Sasha's sparkle will be back...and it will stay back!!

These kinds of things DO happen! I guess the "silver lining" is the infection will be taken care of pronto! Had she not split a stitch, it may have been awhile before the infection was discovered and it could have takes drains and changing bandages and numerous trips back and forth to the vet.

You behave yourself Miss Sasha!

Hang in there! You're doing great!

Hugs!

OH crazy Sasha! How did you manage to do that?

When the vet spotted the discharge did they say anything about doing a culture on it?

Don't be scared. Sasha isn't. Things do get better, just keep focused on that OK? We're here for ya.
