My 2yo Chihuahua mix had one of her hind legs amputated two days ago. This was after an unsuccessful healing of her surgery in October to correct a level 4 luxating patella. I can already tell she is doing better this time around but she is still a bit of a baby when it comes to pain. (But what do I know about what she's feeling?). The vet has her on Tramadol and Meloxicam. She also had these meds after her last surgery and was in a huge amount of pain at that time, so I did some research and found out about the homeopathic "Traumeel". I asked the vet if I could add it on and she said it would be fine. So I decided to do the same thing this time around. The only difference is after her amputation I am seeing a LOT of bruising. Her whole lower tummy is deep red/purple. I don't remember much bruising after the luxating patella corrective surgery.

So my question is this: Is there any reason that the Traumeel would be affecting the amount of bruising occurring after her amputation? I don't know if affects platelet aggregation like the NSAID medications it claims be an alternative to. All I know is it has anti-inflammatory properties and definitely gives Kiwi pain relief. I plan to ask my vet this question when I see her but until then I wanted to get some other opinions/experiences.

Thanks!

I have not ever used Traumeel but it is not unusual for there to be subQ bleeding after an amputation because even though the muscle ends have been sutured together they can still ooze.  If there is a squishy fluid pocket (seroma ) or blood dripping from the incision then I would contact your vet.
