Not even sure what vet said...thought he said " burger".....kept goggling anything sounding like "burger" along with word "deviation"...something...came upwith carpal.whatever

ANYWAY.don't have very first pictures breeder set of her at five months..but I remember thinking she looked knot kneed. when took her into ER two weeks ago for snake bite (another story)...now seven months..asked Vet about it as an afterthought...too focused on getting herwell from venomous snake...mentioned something like could correct it with surgery but wasn't concerned about it and wouldn't guarantee anything anywa.

Asked my regular vet today....said c o uld be deformity at birth...could be injury not healing right...could be poor nutrition...etc. Has seen far worse cases...wouldn't really recommend splints as they don't generally work...wouldn't recommend surgery.........

I have her on Orjen Large Breed PUppy.someChicken and some HonestKitchen Puppy...want to eventually add raw. Think the family run breeder gave her puppy Pro Plan..... have no control over the first five and a half months

Really wasn't listening too well because I could only focus on one wuestion......"This doesn't have anything to do with osteosarcoma...this doesn't mean she'll get that???!" Said something like....."Well, anytime something affects a bone...whether it's a break...or injury...or deformity...or even a bruise...it could ...could....increase the likelihood"........WHAAAAT??

DID I HEAR HIM RIGHT????? Cannot stand the thought......cannot.

What should I do? Will this get worse? It's not botherig her at all. Is it a prelude......?

ALWAYS GRATEFUL...ALWAYS....FOR YOUR TIME AND INPUT!!!

IGNORE THE SWOLLEN FACE FROM THE SNAKE BITE......She still cute as a button though...a really big button!!!............It's her left front leg...

She has what??? & they can or can't do surgery?  I know we talked about her legs & stuff and BREATHE SALLY.

It doesn't mean she is going to get Osteoscaroma.  Can she outgrow this?

Once again BREATHE.   ok, next step call and have them email what they said to you.  Then you can research it or have us do it for you.  Then eat chocolate, The BREATHE again.

and once again it doesn't mean she will get that crap disease.  Breathe, Breathe Breathe.  and call me when you need to

hugs

Oh Sally,

Sweet Myrtle already eating snakes?? Crazy child. What does the vet think about as she ages will the deformity straighten out? Is there a rehab vet around? You know the drill, don't even think of the C word. Even if he mentioned it, it's a bent leg. Easy for me to say but Myrtle just wants her M and M's and snakes.  I actually did snake aversion therapy on Hank. Keep us posted!

Sally, like Michelle said, breathe........I have seen similar conditions like this in a lot of large breed dogs, working in my veterinary hospital, and I don't ever remember cancer being related to any of the dogs with it. Did you talk to an Orthopedic vet, or just your regular vet? I will never be one to say don't worry about something, but for right now, try not to worry. If she is not in any pain, and getting around normally, that is a very good thing.......at worst, this is something to just keep an eye on for the future, but we are NOT going to entertain even the smallest thought of the ugly "c" with this, just NOT.......

Sending lots of love and {{{{hugs}}}} to you,
Bonnie & Angel Polly

I agree, we are not going to entertain the c word. I know Sally, we just become so much more vigilant after we have gone through this journey. Some days I long for the innocence of the days when I had not ever heard the word Osteosarcoma. Oh, the bliss! In your own words, BREATHE!!!!!!!! Have some wine with that chocolate. I also agree on having the vet write down what she told you. I think we get to a point where we cannot decipher what they are actually telling us from the roaring sound in our ears. Stay in the moment. Consult another vet if you need to to relieve your mind. Sending you extra hugs!!!! And Myrtle, snakes really! You ornery girl. Sally, I have furniture that tastes delicious also. LOL M. M is adorable. Love from, Lori and Ty

Sally, I've never heard of this condition but I know this was worrisome to hear, it would freak me out too. But you know you can't stress about things you have no control over, especially things that may or may not happen in the future. The truth is SO many things can lead to cancer, all we can do is our best to keep our (and our animals') bodies strong and resilient to avoid it as best we can. Her diet is wonderful, you are doing all the right things. Breathe.....

P.S. Wyatt Ray 's legs kinda looked like that when he was a pup, (you can reallly see it here), but they don't any more. Someone told me it was from poor nutrition as a young pup.

As everybody has said just take a moment and breathe.  As another mentioned get in contact with the vet and ask them to spell out what they suspect the problem is so you can do a little research.  When the vet told us the radiologist suspected cancer in Leland's knee I had him write out on paper what it was because I had no idea how to spell "synovial cell sarcoma".

Don't jump to conclusions until you know what you're actually dealing with (I know easier said than done) because you'll drive yourself crazy.  As others mentioned it could be a deformity Myrtle was born with or possible poor nutrition.  I think with larger breed dogs we have to be careful with what puppy food is being fed because a high protein food could speed up bone growth that really shouldn't be.  Like you said you had no control over what the breeder fed her before she came to you.

I would definitely have her checked by an orthopedic surgeon to get a clearer picture of what she's dealing with and any options that could possibly help.

Keeping you and Myrtle in my thoughts.

Oh Sally.... I don't even know what to say. I am not going to 'go there' either... I don't know anything about any of these issues  BUT I am holding you all in my thoughts, prayers and all that... Maybe get a second opinion or see an orthopedic?

I'm with the others .. I think once we have all gone through this, we are ultra sensitive to anything to do w/our pups. I was walking Jasper last and I used to let Shelby jump up on raised sidewalks and do a tight-rope walk but I won't let Jasper do anything since I don't want her to break her leg. I don't even like to run far w/her since I am trying to protect her legs. Unconsciously, I am putting little Jasper in the same bubble that I had miss Shelby in after she broke her leg... it's awful. I am still super timid.

Please keep us posted ... we are ALL here for you!

Hugs my sweet Sally ... so many hugs and love for you and Myrtle.

Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. HMMMMM...   I agree.. you should get them to email the explanation to you so that you have it in text... easier to research AND remember!!

Everyone has given you great advice.. and I can just say Ditto!!

You have no control over the future.. but you know what?  Whatever happens.. whenever it happens... IF anything EVER happens..  do you yourself know how blessed you are?  Not only to have the love of that sweet mug thinking "burger" but that sweet mug from above!!  And. you have so many friends here who are more than willing to lend an ear, offer advice, and help you to breatheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Chocolate.. yes.. FOR YOU!!! NOT MYRTLE!!!  laughing

And I came up with a name for you... !!!!   I have been thinking about how everyone signs their name.. we have "furever in my heart" "always in my heart" "angel" "spirit".. and you said once before that you did not want to include that in your signature.. so I created this name in my head for you.... .

Happy Hannah's Sally with her Sweet Slobbery Merry Myrtle!!

Side note - people on the outside world don't seem to understand what I mean when I say Shelby is FUR-ever in my heart or that she SENT me Jasper Lily... just another reason the Tripawd nation is the most amazing place in the world ... I never have to explain my never-ending signatures or thought-process... you all just get it! XO

Oh Chris! That is adorable!!!! It is a smie maker too!! And that's important to me! And I certainly am owned by my Happy Hannah..Im hers! And Merry Myrtle's slobber is nature's finest nectar as far as Im concerned!!!

MICHELLE AND SASSY...BONNIE AND POLLY...SAHANA AND LELAND ...LORI AND TY...RENE AND JERRY...CHRISTINE AND FRANKLIN...ALISON AND SHELBY.......

You know how we all just hope with all our hearts that we can somehow, someway, write words that bring support, comfort and reassurance.....yet we usually feel pretty inadequate sometimes (at least I do).......Well....let me tell you.....your words DO make a difference! Your support is comforting and reassuring!! Being reminded to BREATHE, and eat chcoolate, does make a difference!!!

And seeing Wyatt Ray 's picture and knowing the issue resolved itself is good! And Bonnie, knowing you saw this alot with no real issues is good too!!!

Okay, I did talk to my regular vet again....CARPAL VALGRUS.....soooo many things involving growth plates.....or birth deformities...or rapid growing bones and growth plates not closing...injury causing it (which he tends to think...but he's not an orthopedic)....anyway, pretty much, as far as I'm concerned....like you all have said....it's done...it happened for whatever reason.

Oh. and Jerry, he said GSD are prone to it too! There is also some called Carpal Hyperextension which does occur in puppies and straightens itself out!!!! So looks like Wyatt is good to go!

He does feel that because Merry Myrtle is seven months and has another twelve plus months of growing, that it may get worse. From what I understand from DR. GOOGLE, somelameness may occur but it is NOT painful.

He also feels the Breeder would be aware of her situation.....no wonder the A**h**e was so willing to work with me on low payments and a low price! Sorry,, but there were other things that went on with him that have disappointed me.

I DID ASK HIM AGAIN.....and he did say...anything that affects the bone could increase the likelihood of that piece of crap disease. This just doesn't seem right...simply because think of all the thousands of dogs who have a fall or something that injures a leg...a bad bump while trying to open the refirgerator door (yeah..HAPPY HANNAH used to sit in front of the refrigerator and put her big ole paw on the door waiting for me to open it so she could shopway-cool)

From what I u derstand from Dr. GOOGLE...specifically The Canadian Veterinary Journal 2010....so many "theories" haven't really proven to be conclusive.....over nutrition ( too many vitamins, minerals, calores).....or true mal nutrition......kt really doesn't matter anyway I guess. In Merry Myrtle's. case...she has it.....she's still growing...and splinting has proven ineffective.....a.d I can't imagine putting her through bone lengthening surgery later! Ahhh....err.....woulde that constitue "trauma to the bone" and kncrease likelihood............questionquestion

GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT!!! IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE.....KNOW THAT TO BE TRUE!!

I do hpe Dr. Pam chimes in......she sure knows big dogs!!! Just ask Tazzie!!!superstar

Happy Hannah's Sally and Sweet Slobbery Merry Myrtle!! (hmmm...have to think on this Christine...a whole lotta typing...a whole lotta romm for typos!)

Ok Sally,

Can sman doesn't mean it will.  So we are going to remain positive that this will straighten itself out AND NO UGLY C word in this girl's future.  So lets see what happens and maybe consult that Orthopedic Dr.  They may have some great ideas to help Ms Mrytle.  I know vets have to advise stuff but just because they advise it doesn't mean it will be so in the future.

So Dr Pam will contribute 🙂   until then Breathe and do not sit & stew about the "What if" or "What could be" because its not and you love Myrtle so practice that "Be More Dog ", eat chocolate, ice cream and cake.  Be happy for now.

I love you my friend
