Hey guys..
So I'm having a freak out moment and wanted to see if anyone here had ever experienced this before....
I've been noticing that sometimes Cody has this lump on the shaft of his penis. Now it's not constantly there... It will appear and sometimes be large and then within seconds, it's gone. It doesn't bother him, as he will let me examine it before it disappears and he doesn't even flinch. Cody had his back leg removed so part of me wonders if this has always been a thing and I just couldn't see it before. I googled the symptom and apparently male dogs get this sometimes when they are excited.. it's called the bulbous gland... but I'm clearly worried because of Cody's cancer diagnosis.
But it wouldn't be some kind of tumor if it disappears right? Sorry if I'm rambling... Just having a worried mommy moment and needed to see if anyone else had ever hear of/experienced this.
Cody is our 7 year old Australian Heeler mix boy. Diagnosed on 2/20/14 and became a tripawd 2/21/14! We chose a homeopathic approach and he is being treated by Dr. Loops our of NC.
You get the prize for being a great doggie Mom who's vigilant of ALL lumps and bumps on Cody! I'm going to guess it's what Dr. Google describes but if you're that worried why not ask your vet next time you're there?

Happens with Murphy on a semi-regular basis. Kind of looks like he still has testicles, but they are further up the shaft. Then they go away.
Oh my! Such things we discuss. He would be soooo embarrassed.

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

I have ZERO experience with this but I can tell you, when jill's cancer metastasized in her leg, the lump did not change one bit over the course of the two weeks it was there while we waited for her amputation. It didn't get any smaller or disappear. I hope that helps in some way!!!
Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. Well Cody, it's nice to have a chuckle...even if it's about your "manhood" that apparently your mom just discovered you had!
Yes, my male dogs have had their "manhood" show up like that. I'll never forget the first time I noticed "it" with my male Huskey and immediately called my vet. He pretty much laughed, said to "watch it" and see if it didn't come and go. Yep, sure enough...came and went many, many, many times!! Yep, sure enough, it was exactly as Dr. Google described it!
Rene! Two male dogs and you've not noticed this? Hmmm.....not sure if Wyatt needs to be more closely inspected.....or if the rest of us are inspecting things a little too closely!

Yes, my dog gets that, too. And definitely when he's excited. And I freaked out the first time I noticed it...it's been many years since I had a male dog and I don't think I ever noticed it in my other two male dogs...maybe I was not as cautious or maybe they don't all do that.
Poor Cody...it must be rough on our babies when we inspect them so carefully.

Yep! Those are "J-balls"! HA! Jackson has them and gets them and they deflate. Not sure what they are, as he's neutered. Must be some other kind of excitable sacks. Hehehheehe! No worries, my dear.

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
Hummm, I didn't know this. Obie is the first boy dog I've had in 25 years or so, and he is little and low to the ground.

I know we have never observed them on Gus, but he has a VERY hairy belly. Murphy, on the other hand, has a pretty much bald belly. Could be the reason some are more noticeable than others.

I have to admit: when I first noticed them on Jackson, I had to experiment. Were they painful? Did they bother him? Firm? Soft? Moveable? So....I squeezed them. Man, THIS IS TMI! Nope, he didn't seem to care one way or the other about them. They are firm, immoveable, about the size of golf balls on either side of his penis. But not painful, or pleasurable....at least from what I can discern about "pleasure" from a neutered dog.
Geez. TMI. Really.
