Ashley,

I'm so sorry that the Duke is having to go through another surgery but it definitely sounds like this is what is best for him. He is young, healthy and strong and has a long life ahead of him. Once he gets through the recovery, and he will, you guys are going to have a blast. You have yourself a special pup in Duke and don't fool yourself, he knows what sacrifices you and your family are making. Wishing Duke and his family all the best. smiley

Are you saying his surgery is tomorrow?

Ashley,

I can only say again, that as much as I love Comet's leg, I wished I had had removed it because it was always in the way.  So, I know how hard it is for you do this and also put him through another surgery.  But in the long run you'll be happy.  And since we all are a little nutty one less worry with our furbabies is a good thing!

Thank ya'll so much for your support. Yes the vet called us back yesterday and upped his surgery to tommorow. So if everything goes as planned he said he should be back to normal within 10 to 12 days. Which makes me happy cause he's never healed from the last surgery so he really hasn't been able to do much. So I'm actually kind of excited now since he'll hopefully finally be able to be a normal puppy. I will miss his sweet little shakes from his nub and the loving hugs he gave wih it but know it's for the best.

Wow - I did not expect to read your latest news, but that sounds like a great plan. You, Cooper and Fancy will all be in the same boat now. First time I've heard of this since joining one year ago, but I guess good things happens in THREES. But we already knew that, didn't we . . .

Thank you so muce for everyone's support it was a very tough morning for us, it's like he knew something was going on. I was up all night with him following him around keeping him out of the water and food and ended up having to put him in the kennel to sleep. Then it took me twenty min to coax him in the car where cried the whole time with his head on my lap. When we got to the vet it took two techs to pry him off me as he decided to stick his head between my legs and plop down and not budge. It was very hard to leave him knowing what they were going to do and how abandoned he felt. They said I should hear something by three so hope all goes well. I'm a mess at the moment can't really even stay at the house it just doesn't feel right without him by my side. Thank you so much for all the support and caring thoughts.

OH MY!

You poor thing!  He's your baby!  And to be taken away kickin' and screamin' makes it so hard!

I would make a strong suggestion to take a nap from now until 3.  You are going to be so tired because when he gets home you'll wnat  to sit up with him again.  We see it so many times here that everyone gets so sleep deprived that you can't focus or cope with the small tasks.  Plus, the lack of sleep will bring out your fears!  Even the strongest get weak, thanks to the lack of sleep.

Write us when he gets out and you know he'll be okay.

Many, many calming thoughts being sent your way.  Oh how terrible for you - and for him.  Please know you are doing what is best, even though it may not seem like it right now.  I can only image how you feel, and my heart is with you.

Well just got off the phone with the vet. Duke lost alot of blood during surgery. They gave him extra meds and iv fluids and finally got it to clot up. Turns out he's got a disease from ticks called ehrlichia ( sorry for spelling) that causes bleeding. So he's heavily medicated at the moment but he should be able to go home tommorow. So hopefully he'll be home tommorow

At least they caught it now, who knows how long that could have gone undetected...  Chloe had a fever afterward and even with that had to stay 2 nights.  I hope Duke recovers enough to take him home in a couple days!!! At least that part is over!

Chloe became a rear amp tripawd on 7-29-10. Another tumor was removed on front leg 2-20-14. Found 3rd tumor on neck 2-2015, but she's still kicking cancer's butt at age 14. Chloe's blog
