Holy cow what a stressful, upsetting situation! We're just so glad that you listened to your dog-sense and fought to get him seen and taken care of. That is so scary!
We're so sorry you've been through so much recently, this was especially tough. Whisper is proud of you.
You done good Ma, and we send lots of healing thoughts out to Max. Get well soon buddy!

Oh YOU poor, poor thing! Oh poor, poor Max! It's wonderful to have a good ending but geeze!
That was a horrifying experience especially after losing your beautiful dog in October. Oh boy, do I understand! Thank goodness you knew that your vet's response wasn't right to the situation.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, you have to be your pet's adovate. (even your own) You were! Never, ever feel like you can't stand up to your vet or doctor. Some (and I only mean "some") vets lose their passion or compassion and can make you feel nutso for so being cautious!
I'm glad it had a good ending. Now, go relax. Go take a long hot bath, have a piece of chocolate cake or chocolate chip cookie (or 4 of them) and say to yourself, "it's gonna be okay"!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
How scary that must have been for you. I am glad you trusted yourself and pushed for action. My sympathies on your loss of Whisper.

Tell you what, I've been around animals my whole life, and I've learned if your gut tells you something, you better listen to it. It frustrates me how some vets think you don't know anything, I understand there are people who will turn a bowl of cherrios into a ten course meal, but when you describe those kind of symptoms, he should have paid attention. Kudo's to you for standing your ground and paying attention to what was going on, bad smells are never good. Don't EVER let a vet intimidate you, there are no stupid questions, glad to hear things worked out, paws up to you both, Spirit Gus and Dan
My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010

Thank you all so much for your answers to my questions and your support. You've been invaluable in getting me through the panic moments. I am very sad to say that Max lost his battle wednesday afternoon. That morning he had been acting stronger, happier and more energetic than he's been through this whole process. There was no more drainage coming out of the shunts but more of the skin had died off. The vet had been holding off on going in to remove it but since he seemed to be improving so much he felt it was safe to go ahead and do another quick procedure to remove the dead stuff and stitch viable stuff together. They were stitching him closed when his heart stopped. They couldn't get it started again. The vet was choked up when he called to tell me. We all fought so hard for him but I guess it was just time for him to go. He fell asleep for the surgery with people loving and petting him, and he passed away peacefully in his sleep. I guess I really can't ask for more than that. This is the first foster I've lost. He and my boxer were instant friends, I'd had day dreams of foster failure with this one! It's amazing how quickly we can become attached to the furry little angels in our lives. Max was such a sweet soul. He and my boxer were instant friends, I'd had day dreams of foster failure with this one!
Run free beautiful boy
Oh, I am so sorry to hear about Maximus!
He was a brave boy, and was lucky to have such a caring, attentive advocate for him.
I really admire that you foster - I can't imagine what it must feel like to get attached, have to go through the loss when they get adopted, and then do it all over again (and again and again...)
Zack, King of Dogs, 1996 to 2010
Zack lived a full 14 years, even to the end.
The joy and memories he provided us will last a lifetime.
Surviving him is his sister, Izzy, a 12-year-old boxer mix quadpawd.
And the latest addition, Zula, an 11-month-old pit bull mix tripawd.
He looked like such a sweetheart! We hope Max is running free with all the other tripawds somewhere over Rainbow bridge. So sorry that things did not work out as planned....
-Chloe's mom
Chloe became a rear amp tripawd on 7-29-10. Another tumor was removed on front leg 2-20-14. Found 3rd tumor on neck 2-2015, but she's still kicking cancer's butt at age 14. Chloe's blog
so sorry to hear about Max... I was so hoping he would pull through.

the monkeydogs only THINK they have invaded the tripawd state
What a beautiful angel....
Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

Thank you, it definitely has it's hard times, good bye is always tough, but I enjoy it. It's not the same sort of loss as when they pass away, cuz I can forever imagine all my foster babies happy and healthy in their new homes, and I go into it knowing it's temporary. I still get crazy attached tho. We all have to do what we can, and this is just something that I'm blessed to bhave the room and the time to be able to do it. Sometimes I can't, I am limited to dogs that get along with cats and that my dog will tolerate. Thankfully Brutus is mellowing these days. He wouldn't have normally tolerated an adult male dog, but he seemed to adore Max and has done better with the past few dogs we've had. Not sure if all my work and training is finally sinking in to his thick skull or if it's just old age chilling him out! lol This ordeal with Maximus really has been my only experience fostering that I could call "bad" and really it's just sad not bad. I'm not sorry we at least tried for him. He deserved it. Some people I know don't get it, "don't you wish you had just put him down right away?" While I do wish he hadn't gone through the pain, I wouldn't change a thing, other than of course still wishing he could have made it. I can look back and say we did everything we could to give him a chance at a good life. I can't save every abandoned, neglected or abused animal out there but I need to know I did everything I could for the few that I can help. I can't afford to adopt any new babies of my own. Since the shelter covers most of the costs with the fosters it's like getting to enjoy another animal in the house and do my part to save them, without having to worry about whether we can buy dog food this month or what we'll do if it gets sick. hehe we have enough of those worries as it is! (3 cats, a dog and a toddler) I had a litter of orphaned American Staffordshire Terriers this summer! Oh my goodness that was fun! lol I was both sad and glad when they finally all found homes. 5 puppies in the house started to get overwhelming once they got past about 7 weeks old. Boy they get big quick. lol At 9 weeks another foster family took a couple of them for me and they all went to their adoptive homes at 13 weeks. I got them at 3 weeks old. Long tragic story about how they got orphaned, but they all found good homes. Really, it's just fun in the end, I'm a stay at home mom and as busy as my son keeps me, it's nice to have more purpose in life. That probably sounds lame, my son is incredible and he is my world, but ya get bored spending the day cooking and cleaning and hanging out with someone who can't even talk yet. lol He loves going up to the shelter with me a few days a week for our volunteer time and meetings and stuff.
Thank you so much for fighting so hard for a foster. That just says so much about you. Max was a beauty and for sure would have found a special home, but I am sure he was thankful to be fostered by such a special family.
RIP sweet Max. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

Awww Max, we are so sorry. We wish that you could have made it though. I know that you and I will be fast friends though. Look me up OK?
As for your Foster Mom, all I can say is thank DOG there are saints like her in this world who are so willing and strong enough to give shelter dogs a second chance. Bravo Mom, you are pawesome.
