I have a 2yr old Lab who is allergic to fleas. She has bald spots around her tail from where she has chewed and scratched.

I have tried everything to help sooth the itch, Dawn,Adams you name it. Any suggestions?

The best thing is to avoid the bites in the first place.  I would use the new monthly flea pill called Comfortis along with Frontline Plus every month for 3 months at least.  You also have to treat the environment.  I like Siphotrol spray because it has an insect growth regulator to prevent larva from hatching.

A short course of steroids from your vet will break the itch cycle.  Some dogs also need an antibiotic if the rash is severe enough.

There is no magic treatment for flea allergy!  Onc your dog is flea-free you will most likely need to use something monthly all of the time or the problem will recur.

Comfortis will cost you about $90 for a 6 month supply, unless you can find a vet who is selling individual tablets.
