Hello, I have been reading about the new medication Synovetin and it sounds promising, but how I don't know how I would go about finding a doctor who has experience with using it. Since it's so brand new, is there a lot of risk involved with using a substance that has radioactive in it? Would you recommend against it?

I did go to a lecture on this and it seems safe and quite promising. The medication is injected into the joint and can reduce inflammation for up to 1 year. Some dogs are even able to completely come off of oral medications. The only downside is that because it is radioactive you need to have training and a license to use it. If you go to the product website I believe they list vets that are using this. The doctor giving the lecture said total costs could vary by region and size of dog but to expect about $2000 for a treatment. This is not that bad when you add up the total cost of drugs for a year and the fact that elbow arthritis is very painful and debilitating to dogs. I think it is best used for moderate arthritis rather than severely affected joints but since this is a new drug we will have to wait to see how dogs do with it.

I know that w/ the injection that is done with guided MRI the cost can be up to 4,000. Would you recommend only doing it with the MRI?
