I agree that the 2nd opinion is a great idea!  I also agree with Pam about the CBC & x-ray.  The cbc is basic blood work and will tell you if her white blood count is elevated, which indicates infection.  The x-ray could show if there is pneumonia, metastasis, or something else going on.  I'm not sure if it can show an abscess or not, but it definitely narrow down what's going on.  Will she allow you to apply a cold pack to the area?  or a cold cloth maybe?

Pretty sure you can hear athe collective sigh of relief that you are going for another opinion!

I think you have a great "list"'ro take with you of the tests you would like run. You are her voice! You are her advocate! Do not leave there until you have all the tests run! Yes, arm yourself with all the information offered here, from the professionals and the non-professionals!!

CBC, xrays, abcess possibility, muscle pain chemical panel, PAIN CONTROL......okay, that's a pretty good start for your list! You can fill in the rest!

We are all feeling more hopeful now too! Progress WILL be made and a solution WILL be found and Cyna WILL start feeling better!!

Will watch for your update tomorrow! Make sure you go through a drive-thru the way home and get Cyna a cheesburger and a cup of ice cream! And treat yourself too! You both deserve it! 🙂

Hugs!

I wish I had better news to report but unfortunately I do not 🙁 They sedated her and did xrays. Her lungs show several masses. They did an aspirate of the lump and got nothing back but some blood. It too looks like a big mass as well. He did give me some Rimadyl and a Tylenol dose. He didn't draw the labs after seeing her xray. He said unfortunately we won't be able to make her very comfortable and we should opt for putting her to sleep very soon. I asked to bring her home so we could say our goodbyes to her. Thank you for all your support and well wishes. This really is a true support group and I am glad I had you all to share Cyna'a story with.

I am heart broken to hear this and I cannot imagine how you are feeling.  But it is better to know and have some additional meds to make her a bit more comfortable.  I hope you can plan some special ways to show her how loved she is.  Some special treats if she is up to it and a lot of loving pats on the head.

Wishing you some good moments as you prepare to say farewell to your very lovely girl, Cyna.

We are with you in spirit.

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly.  His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.

I apologize as I have ro run to work. I just saw your post and wanted to send you love anf strength.

And yeah, if she's up for eating give her ANYTHING she wants! No foods are forbidden! Today Cyna is with you. Just take it moment at a time and cherish being together. Make every moment a Cyna moment!!

Ohhhhh my heart just aches for you, I'm really sorry. We were all hoping for better news and I know you must be so heartbroken.

I agree, it's so much better to know what's happening so that you can prepare. As hard as this is, I hope you found it comforting to go to the other vet.

You and Cyna have a bond that can never be broken. Love her up, spoil her rotten and know that we are here for you throughout all of this OK?

I'm so very sorry.

I'm really glad that you got a second opinion, even though that is definitely not they news anyone expected or wanted to hear.  I'm so very sorry for your news.  I know that you love Cyna so much and that this is very difficult for you.  Please know that we are all thinking of you and holding you in our prayers.  Like Sally said - nothing is off limits today - chocolate, steak, whatever she wants should be hers.

Keeping you both in our hearts.

Kathi

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Holding you close and sending you love ....

Shelby Lynne; Jack Russell/Shiba Inu mix. Proud member of the April Angels of 2014.

October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

I'm so sorry that you're facing this decision so soon after amputation. From your first post in this thread, it did sound like she had a good period of time post-amp so I hope that gives you some comfort. When you finally have to say goodbye, try to keep that positive thought in your heart.

Denise, Bill and Angel Ellie.

Active 10+ Pyr mix suddenly came up lame with ACL tear in left rear leg. Scheduled for a TPLO but final pre-op x-rays indicated a small suspicious area, possibly OSA, which could have caused the ACL tear. Surgeon opened the knee for TPLO but found soft bone. Biopsy came back positive for OSA. Became a Tripawd 9/18/14. Carbo6 with Cerenia and Fluids. Pain free and living in the moment. Crossed the Bridge on 7/12/15 after probable spread of cancer to her cervical spine. A whole lifetime of memories squeezed into 10 months. Here's her story: Eloise

I so sorry to hear this news.  I hope that the pain meds will help her feel better and can at least take her fever away.

I'm very late to this post, but my heart broke as soon as I read the 2nd opinion.

Wrapping you and your pack with love as you cherish your sweet fur-baby for whatever time you have.
