I lost my beloved dog last week.  She was diagnosed with metastatic osteosarcoma in March and underwent stereotactic radiation and came home on Palladia and losartan.  After 2 fantastic months she suddenly developed a cardiac arrhythmia, and it was time to let her pass on.  My only consolation is that she did not suffer the indignity of declining due to the cancer, and was running and swimming until her final day.  We spent 13 1/2 perfect years together.

I have leftover Palladia which I know I cannot donate through this site.  I contacted CSU and VCA, but neither accept donated medications.  I cannot throw it away in good conscience knowing the gift it could offer to another dog, and the expense of this medication.  Does anyone have any suggestions of organizations that could accept the donation?  I am a vet tech and am able to transfer it through our clinic.  It isn't a medication we will use there in general practice.

You all have my best wishes dealing with this terrible illness in your own pups.

Hello findacure, I love that User Name.

My sincere condolences, I am so sorry that your girl got her wings too soon after the diagnosis. My heart goes out to you. We would love to hear more about your girl if and when you are up to it.

You are so generous and thoughtful for asking about the Palladia. Geez I'm surprised CSU cannot take it, especially since you can transfer it through the clinic. I just thought of an org that might be able to point you in the right direction. The Magic Bullet Fund. Let them know that Tripawds sent you. Since they assist financially disadvantaged people in helping their dogs receive chemo, they may know a way to make sure the Palladia isn't wasted. Do let us know what you find out OK?

Many hugs coming your way.

I'm so sorry to hear about the recent loss of your pup.

We also have Palladia leftover in the Denver area and have not been able to find anyone to take it so we've just been hanging onto it. I'd love to know if you find on organization that is able to take it.

I have been in contact with the Magic Bullet Fund, they are waiting to hear back whether the clinic treating two of their dogs on Palladia can accept the medication.  I'll let you know what I find out.

Thank you for your condolences on the loss of my friend.  She was so good to me, but it's too difficult to talk about her with this all being so raw.  I feel that i'm doing her a disservice in that respect.  Please know that she was the kindest, most empathetic companion that I could have asked for, and her happiness never failed to put me in a good mood.  We knew each other inside out.  She was my once in a lifetime dog.  I know it sounds strange, but I am so grateful to whoever surrendered her to the pound as a puppy.  I told her every day of her life what a blessing she was to me.

Ohhhh you bet. What a dear she sounded like. Don't worry, nothing here ever sounds strange because we GET it. And you are not doing her any kind of disservice at all. If anything you are honoring her by the courageous act of joining us to post about the Palladia. That is HUGE and I know she has got to be so proud of you. When or if you are ready to share more about her, feel free to post a tribute in Coping with Loss or for the Tripawds Honor Roll. We would enjoy learning about the great life you gave her.

Thanks for sharing what you've learned so far about donating the Palladia. This is so helpful.
