Thanks Renee for the response, kind words, and encouragement.  Mongo definitely has his moments and has always been good at waiting for me to tell him ok/go ahead before he eats.  Kind of surprising considering how food driven he is, but he excels at it.  Posing for the steak was definitely a challenge for him, but I think he figured out it was worth it.  It's funny that a few days later when I grilled out again he was pretty disgusted that it went back to just a couple of bites for him after I was done instead of a full steak to himself icon_lol.

I definitely need to bite the bullet and board him for a day and see how it goes.  He just tends to freak out when I leave, unless he's relaxing/snoozing on the couch then he could care less lol, and as all bulldogs he can be super stubborn.  So I have this nightmare scenario in my head that he'll freak out in the lobby and refuse to move when I leave, and then I'll get a call before I leave the parking lot to come get him lol.  On the other hand I'm sure they have to deal with difficult dogs all of the time, so it probably won't be that big of a deal for them.

Thanks again for the kind response.  I'll do my best to check in more often and let you guys know how we're doing.  Here's some more good and fairly recent pics of the big guy:

Oh that face! It says "MORE STEAK!" all over it! icon_lol

When you leave him, that's just Mongo telling you he doesn't like to be left alone. But I'll bet you twenty bucks that at a boarding kennel it'll be different. He'll be too wrapped up thinking about all the dogs he's hearing, the smells, the newness. It will be very exciting and suddenly you'll be yesterday's news! Try it with daycare and see what happens when you leave him just an hour at a time. Worst case if he has a meltdown in the lobby you can walk into the back with him carrying treats, then the staff can help you distract him while you make a quiet exit. We did that for Wyatt Ray whenever we had to leave him, or even just escort him to the back of the vet clinic for tests and stuff. You just have to be brave and do it because someday you'll need to leave him without notice because of an emergency (or maybe some killer last minute concert tickets you scored!). Practice practice for that big day!

It's super hearing from you, and for everyone to see how life gets better even after losing a beloved Tripawd like Wally. Mongo is such a gift to all of us! Keep in touch.

MOOOOOONGOOOOO!!!!    OMD!! As always, THE best smile making pictures in the world!!  Over the moon Happy to read these update AND getting to see his precious self!!!

Love the pjoto of him on couch looking over his shoulder at you.  And then sitting like such a good voy waiting for his steak......such a good boy!  I keep scrolling back to look at his pictures and each one becomes a favorite over and over again.  Love his little toothy grin.

HAPPY BELATED GOTCHA DAY MONGO🍨🎂👏  Hard to believe it's been two years.........and what a time it's been!  Without question, Mongs was meant to be with you and you with him.

Bummer thar Uncle John can't dog sit him. Both seemed to enjoy the visits.  Jerry's given good tips on how to slowly introduce Mongo into a good daycare center.  I'm sure you'll check out reviews and assess them while they  assess Mongo😉  They probably have pretty much non stop cameras gping  all the time so uou can check in at any time to see him.

Again, so glad to hear from uou and always, always, always love seeing pictures of Mongo!

Hey Sally!  Great to hear from you.  New you'd like the pics smiley4.  I hope that you're doing well.

Rene - He gets upset when I leave him with my mom (although he calms down relatively quick she says) and if someone's over at the house and leaves (like Uncle John).  So I think he'll freak out at the kennel when I leave no matter what.  So I think I'll need to walk him back to his "suite" and distract him with some treats like you suggested.  Anyway, I agree that I definitely need to get him acquainted with a kennel sooner rather than later.  I'm going on a family vacay in the first week of Oct., so that's the drop dead date to have it figure out.  But to your point I need to get it taken care of sooner rather than later in case something comes up or I want to go out of town and can't take him w/ before then.  I'm setting a goal to call up the place I used to take Wally and Benny by the end of the week to schedule him for Oct. and discuss with them a gameplan to get Mongo acquainted with them.

Well thanks again to both of you for all of the kind words and encouragement.  I'm glad my story can help, and I'll do my best to check in more often.

Yep, do it a few times before October and you'll both feel better about being apart. I think that maybe he does it with your mom because he knows she's part of the pack and he can get away with stuff. With strangers, and more dogs around, he'll be on his best paw forward to show them he's in charge. At least I think he will! I dunno. But I'll be curious to see how it goes to keep in touch!

Hey guys!  I know it's been awhile, but I didn't realize it had been 6 months smiley5.  Guess time flies when you're super busy.  So anyway, I wanted to drop by and wish you all Happy Howlidays!  Also, Mongo's been doing well.  I finally did brave taking him to the local kennel, and I'm happy to report that he did really well!  There was no meltdown or resisting to go back in the lobby.  He surprisingly just went right w/ the kennel employee back to his suite.  I booked him for a private room, and he did really well.  So much so that I took him for doggy daycare evaluation the following week, which he passed.  He also did well when he stayed over the family vacay.

He also stayed w/ my mom for 2 weeks last month while I took a trip to Europe.  He did pretty well at her place, but there was 1 incident which really wasn't his fault.  The first night he was there (when I was flying across the pond) my mom decided to make guacamole, and she unfortunately dropped the avocado pit on the floor which Mongo snatched up.  She couldn't find the pit and made the assumption that he swallowed it, so w/ some help from my cousin took Mongo to her vet.  They X-rayed him and didn't find anything, and get this: my mom found the pit under her lounge chair later on after getting back from the vet.  It's actually a good thing though that she took him b/c while they were examining him they found he had a fever and ear infections.  Surprised by that b/c he really hadn't shown any signs (wasn't digging at his ears or anything), but it was good that they caught it.  So I didn't save as much money as I thought I would by having him stay w/ my mom instead of the kennel, but it worked out for the most part.

Other than that he's been doing well.  I got him a big knuckle bone as an early Christmas gift, and he's been chomping down on that.

Well I gotta run.  I hope everyone is doing well and that you're having a great holiday season!  As always, here's some new pics to enjoy.  Including my failed attempt to try to get him to pose w/ me in front of the Christmas tree icon_lol

Okay, okay, I'll admit it.  I quickly, very quickly scrolled  through  the post without barely reading it at first   because  I knew pictures of Mongo awaited!!!

I looooved every single one👏👏  How coud you not love a picture of Mongo?  That one of you in front of the tree trying to get Mongo to look at the camera..... HILARIOUS!!.  Truly laughed out loud at that one😂😄  That would make the best Christmas  card evvver😎

I saw Mongo's very own stocking hanging in  the background.  So cute.  I have no doubt Santa  will fill  it with lots of goodies👍

I'm so happy that Mongo settled into his kennel "suite" with no issues.  I know that was a huge relief.  Congrats on Mongo being approved for doggy day care.  So glad you have a lot of options when you need to go out of town.

Of course I know it wasn't  funny at first that Mongo snatched that avocado  seed....supposedly.  Glad he was cleared of that and yiu can now laugh about it.

A trip to Europe....WOW!  Maybe we can have a few pics of that trip.....of course with some more of Mango!

Wonderful to hear from you AND to see pictures of the most photogenic  pup in the world!

Oh my dog has it been that long? Six months have gone by in a blur! But dang you have made the most of that time. I'm so glad you came by to update, your posts always make us smile.

Europe? Boarding? Avocado scare? WOW! The journeys you and Mongo have been on this year! I can't stop smiling knowing how much progress he's made with you, and your mom/family. TEAM MONGO ROCKS!!! smiley_clap

P.S. I grew up with an avocado tree in the backyard, our dogs ate them all the time. Now I find out those yummy fruits are toxic? Whaaa?! Better safe than sorry of course. Your mom is pretty awesome to take him to the vet. She must have been so worried! Glad everything turned out all right.

Hoppy pawlidays to you too! Thank you for making our day merry and bright, we sure need that around here as you know too well! ((((hugs))))

Hey guys.  Yeah, I was surprised at how long it had been since my last pupdate on Mongo as well.  I'll try to stop by more frequently going fwd.

As for the avocado pit, Mongo definitely swiped it up and took off with it (as you would expect) and my mom wasn't concerned it had poisoned him, but that he had swallowed it whole and it would block him up.  Anyway, I'm glad she took him to the vet.

A couple of other fun anecdotes from his stay with my mom:

He only had one accident during his visit.  He would wake my mom up in the morning to let her know he needed to go out, and one morning I guess she took longer to get up than he could hold it.  But the clever (at least at times) boy peed in her walk in shower.

Whenever we visit my mom we both sleep in the guest room that has 2 single beds (so Mongo gets his own bed).  After the first night that I wasn't there Mongo wouldn't go to bed in the bedroom anymore and slept on my mom's chair or couch in the living room.  After I got back from my trip he followed me right into the bedroom for bed time.

And speaking of the trip, as requested here are some photos from it as well as one of Mongo from this morning:

Yeah, I'll have to admit it again.  I scrolled quickly  until I got to the picture of Mongo.  Of cour6 broke out into a huge grin!!

Then I went back and read uour context and looked at those wonderful photos.  What  a wonderful adventure this must have been.  It had to almost be Spiritual to be in the presence of so much history.  The architecture, the art, the gift of so much beauty that surrounded you in Nature.....all of ot so breathtaking.

Thank you for taking the time to share  some of uour trip through pictures.

Had wich a good laugh at Mongo taking a pee in the shower!!   He is one smart boy.  Then to wait for his Dad to come over to Grandma so he could sleep side by side in the twin beds.... .soooo sweet.

The bond you two forged jas been so heartwarming to watch unfold.

Cant wait for the Christmas pictures of Mongo♥️♥️♥️

Thanks again for sharing the trip, the Mongo and the laughs

LOVE the photos! Wow that's the trip of a lifetime, how neat. Too bad you couldn't take Mongo with you. Can you imagine the fun?!

OK now I get it about the avocado pit. Yeah I'd be freaked out too, that could cause a huge blockage! Better to be safe and have it checked out.

He is SUPER smart for peeing in the shower! What a very good boy.

It's always nice catching up with you two smiley16Hoppy Pawlidays!

Hey guys,

Happy New Year!  Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and as always thanks for the responses and kind words.  Rene - saw your picture from Alaska in the other thread.  Looked like fun, although I have to admit I'm not one for cold weather activities (and neither is Mongo, lol).

Yeah, the Europe trip was great.  Bit of a whirlwind w/out much R&R, but we did see a lot of great things.  As far as bringing Mongo across the pond, I'm pretty sure he's better off staying home.  He wouldn't be able to handle all of the walking and would probably be none too happy about how congested things were.

So Christmas at my mom's was ok.  Spent Christmas Eve at my sister and brother in law's, which is always fun.  Especially watching my nieces and nephew open their gifts.  Mongo was mostly good and was a blast opening his presents.  We just set the bag out where we had his gifts wrapped up in tissue paper, and he just opened one then went on to the next one and so on.  Unfortunately I didn't get any photos as I was enjoying watching him open too much.

Unfortunately the couple of days after Christmas weren't too good.  My cousin and his daughter moved into my mom's basement, and every time one of them would come or go Mongo would go absolutely nuts.  He had been around my cousin quite a bit when I was in Europe, but unfortunately that didn't make much difference.  If you've ever been around Mongo you'll know that a little of his loud bark goes a LONG way.  Also, he managed to knock over my mom's Christmas tree (he would have knocked it over 3 times, but I was close enough to catch it from falling over twice).  He did calm down quite a bit once they had finished moving in, so hopefully that's a good sign smiley5.

Anyway, we're back home now to ring in the new year, and things are nice, peaceful, and quiet.  Here's a couple of pictures of Mongs from "his" chair at my mom's lol.

Well Mongo, I agree with YOU......the Cousin jas to move our of your Grandma's so you can reclaim your posit of King of her household!😄🤣    I'm sure all that commotion made things ....er..... "interesting"

Now Mongo, it wasn your fault about the tree.  They should have secured it in a cinder block with ropes and chains tied to the wall.😉😉😁

I do love trying to visualize how mine go was opening his presents. He's a very smart boy and clearly Santa Claus was good to him.

As always, the pictures of Mongo are priceless. The chair fits him perfectly.   Prompted me to put in a quick photo of tripawd Frankie owning my chair just like Mongo owns your mom's chair.  I tried to decorate  it with a little sparkle for Christmas.   I think he liked it.  He's either laughing  at me or yawning

Thanks for the update and, as always the wonderful pictures of the adorable, photogenic Mongo!

Oh my gosh these dogs on their thrones just made my day. Those boys OWN IT!

If we had living room furniture here I'm sure Nellie would do the same, but she's not too keen on climbing onto the only furniture, our hardwood dining room chairs.

Rich it's so interesting that Mongo went nuts during the cousin's move-in. Must have been just too much activity and newness for him to handle? Our Wyatt would do stuff like that. And oh gosh the tree incident ... someday you'll all laugh at that right? icon_lol

Enjoy the peaceful new year's eve and cheers to you and Mongo, and your very cool family, in 2024! See ya next year!

Thanks Sally and Renee, and Happy New Year!

Sally - Love the picture of Frankie!  He looks nice and comfy on your chair lol and looks like a great boy!

Renee - Mongo goes nuts whenever a stranger comes to the door, so it was probably just that guard dog instinct kicking in.  But he had spent some time with my cousin, who worked quite a bit on my mom's basement while I was across the pond.  He even took Mongo on some walks.  I would have thought that Mongo would have known him well enough by now to have just barked a little bit instead of going full blown crazy, but no such luck.  Hopefully he'll get used to them being there smiley5.  At least there won't be a tree to knock over next time we visit lol.

Well I had better get going.  Here's a pic of Mongo in his normal environment enjoying his peaceful New Year's morning:
