Once again this amazing dog has scared the pejabbers out of her mom and come out smelling like a rose.  The wet, cold weather we have been having had really taken a toll on her outside activities and had me a little concerned, then because I was checking her over more diligently than normal, I found lumpy, bumpy growths on her right rear knee.  Bob and I talked and decided we needed to get her in, we would rather know what we were dealing with.

I called Dr F on Monday and he gave me three scenareos - arthritis, torn cruciate, or secondary cancer.  What a choice!  We discussed starting her on Adequan if it was the arthritis.  We didn't discuss  the other options. I took her in yesterday because it was suppose to be a nice day and I dread transporting her anywhere in the drizzly rain.

She spent the day with them, had xrays and her six month blood work.  Final report, she has arthritic changes - woo hoo!  Who would ever think you would be happy to hear the poor old lady has progressing arthritis! Her blood work continues to be perfect.  Because our winters are short, and she bounced around the office all day as they observed her, and her good days still outweigh the bad, we are going to wait a bit on the Adequan.  We will start her on Dasequin or Cosequin as soon as I can decide which I am brave enough to try - they both are made from shellfish.

The point to sharing this - NEVER give up.  Fight to the very end.  This is the second time in the last several months that we thought we may be dealing with the returning cancer, only to find it was something else.  She is my hero - a grand old gal!

Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul.  Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

Getting a bit more beaten up by arthritis is certainly the lesser of any of the other evils you imagined! I'd have been doing the dance of joy too. big-grin

Trouble truly is a grand old gal, Shanna.

Trouble, you and your mom sure are blessed!  Those achy joints are the pits, but I just know you will handle it with grace.

Keep fighting pretty girl!

You go girl! Keep that mom of yours on her toes smiley

Shanna, this is the best news ever and although arthritis is no walk in the park it beats the crap out of you know what. Give the grand old gal a big hug for us.

Yea Trouble!

I was worried when I saw your earlier post about a lumpy knee, I am so glad it's ONLY arthritis!! way-confused

It is interesting how our perspective changes through all this- I had a few of these with Maggie-  'oh good, it's only incontinence...'

And thanks too for the reminder!  You stay optimistic and positive until there is a DEFINITE reason not to be!

Well, I never thought I'd be posting that I was "happy" Trouble has arthritis, but I guess in a way, I am!  So glad to hear it wasn't one of the other two possibilities.  Keep on rockin' Trouble!  You are one tough gal!!

Considering what it could have been, this is great news!

After Skyler's surgery, we put her and Chloe on dasequin - due to their age and arthritis. Well, let me just tell you this - you'd think Chloe was a 6 month old pup the way she runs around now. She grabs the leash and makes me run with her. You'd never know that she was 10 1/2 (except for the gray goggles around her eyes). We've continued her with the dasequin, and also fish oil with omega 3 & 6. Good luck, and we'll celebrate the good news tonight!

Oh Trouble, stop doing that to us!

Arthritis is something we can all celebrate here. You're probably not thinking that, but we sure are.

Your pawrents are incredible, you know that right? You are SO loved, girlfriend!

Shanna, we are really glad that Trouble only has issues with arthritus. I used to worry as Coop got older that he would develop hip problems or arthritus... who would ever guess that those things would be a relief compared to the awful menace that has already attacked our furkids! we are all rooting for Shanna to keep right on going!
